None of the umpires are New Zealanders.

Neutral umpiring from both ends in Test cricket was implemented a couple of years ago.

Having said that about neutral umpiring, I think the morons in the box, those commentators were ridiculously biased. They were praising both the umpires, specially Steve Davis for judging good LBW calls. However, Flemming was plumb in front of a Shabbir full toss and got away with it. Cairns was also LBW first ball up.

yar pakistan is lacking the fire power in the absence of shoaib akhter....plus sami has suddenly hit this patch of bowling no-balls. its been said kay he's lost his rythm....how long is he gonna take to get his rythm back....this has been the story since he made his comeback from injury in the bangladesh one day series.....

I feel pakistan could've used the wealth of experience in Waqar Younis and taken him along, thats what pakistan is missing at the moment. The bowlers have the pace and ability, but they're spraying the balls all over. In this situation, if Waqar had been there he couldve offered his advice plus chipped in with a wicket or 2 which we know he still is capable of doing.

I feel the Pakistani think tank missed a trick by dropping him so soon after the world cup, they couldve tested him for a series or 2 after that. Which is very unlucky on Waqar's part as well. Time and again he's been kicked out of the squad for no fault of his own. Earlier on it was the squabble with Wasim Akram, this time he was blamed for the poor performance of the pakistani bowling attack.

Gte over it.he is finished as bowler.Pakistani cricket is much better without him.

Exactly thats when I felt that Amir Sohail should have been there

Injury to Shoaib was a big blow to Pak bowling attack but what's wrong with Sami. 15 no balls. Danish is bowling very well, but one spinner is not enough.
295/6 is not a big score. The pitch looks batting friendly, at least as of 1st day. Pak should get rid of last 4 guys in less than 50 runs.

Cricket: Javed backs experience over machines

Pakistan coach Javed Miandad reckons he doesn’t need a machine to tell him what’s happening.

At a time when most test-playing nations - New Zealand in particular - are embracing every bit of technology they can lay their hands on, Miandad’s side have arrived in the country without - shock, horror - the services of a video analyst.

“I don’t need a computer programmer to tell me what’s happening, not yet anyway,” Miandad said in Hamilton yesterday.

The former Pakistani great is an avid explorer of technique and method, and his expertise has apparently been as useful for veterans such as Inzamam-ul-Haq as it has for the younger players like Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed.

Miandad, whose team meet New Zealand in the first test at Westpac Park this morning, said a new video analyst would probably be appointed, but he was not unduly perturbed by not having one.

“We’ve done all right without one so far. I am the video analyst. Whatever is happening I see and assess and keep it all stored up here,” he said, tapping his forehead.

“I have the experience, I can see the performance and can pass on my observations.”

There has been a suggestion that during the test match, New Zealand will try to play on Pakistan’s well-earned reputation for in-fighting, in much the same way they profited during the previous tour in 2001, when they won the one-day series and drew the tests.

But Miandad said his side had been playing well for six or seven months and the sense of togetherness had never been stronger.

“Morale is very high and the boys are playing as one, so there are no problems there,” he said. “They are tough players and work very hard.”

As for his batsmen, Miandad believed there was no secret recipe for success.

“If you’re a class cricketer, there will be no problems, and I have plenty of confidence in the batsmen.”

I think we will need a video analyst eventually. Miandad has a lot of experience but a video analyst is indispensable these days. But hopefully it will not be Iskandar Bakht or someone of his calibre. :nook:

bhaijaan ur bowling is the only thing that used to win u matches now that too is looking fragile. Shoaib akhter is carried off to the pavilion with his ankle or his shoulder or whatever in every other match. do u think u can possibly win matches against the likes of tendulkar and dravid next year. sami, shabbir, kaneria and gul are good but they're inexperienced, there has to be someone to guide them.

Ehsan any chance of broadcast today? Teaser are you doing that ?

hanji brothers, someone broadcasting today? :)

I thought the umpiring was very fair, except for one decision when Cairns should have been given LBW to Kaneria in his first ball facing the spinner.
But overall I think Pakistanis especially Sami bowled poorly, too many no balls and loose deliveries gave it away but not to take anything away from Fleming, I thought he played a fighting knock and all credit to him.

I agree with someone saying above that Pakistanis don't have the fire power without Shoaib, he has become sort of a leader in our pace dept, Sami also does well when Shoaib bowls from the other end.

Pakistan needs early wickets today and bowl them out for less then 350 and really bat well for the next 2 days and post a 400+ totals, from the looks of this pitch, I don't see them troubling our batsman.

Funguy ji, I don’t think the commentators were biased, they actually talked more about the Pakistani team then their own countryman.
They just simplly pointed out the fact that none of these new Pakistani bowlers like Shabbir, Gul, Razzaq have the firepower as Wasim, Waqar or Shoaib does.

Pakistan starting with a new ball. The pitch is deteriorating and the commentators reckon that anything over 350 will be dangerous for Pakistan.

Cloudy, ball would be swinging. If we bowl them out, we'll be in trouble as well. And Inzimam opted to bowl first right?

I think more than the ball swinging it is the condition of the pitch which is giving rise to concern. I said that yesterday that Inzi's decision to bowl was not right.

yaar, is somebody broadcasting??

Pakistan should win this match.

Fleming hits Sami for 4 and NZ 300 comes up.
