Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - 5th ODI - National Stadium, Karachi (D/N)
What you guys think, shouldnt PCB/Inzi and co give a chance to a youngster in the home series, here I am talking about Zulqarnain Haider. He seems doing pretty good with bat in domestic cricket.
With Pakistan at full strength we could probably do without the services of both. We have enough consolidators in the team - Hameed, Yousuf, Younis and Inzi so we don't really need Malik. I would rather play a specialist spinner than three bits and pieces all-rounders. On current form only Razzaq deserves a permanent place in the team.
So in order to play Afridi or Malik you have to either play Akmal as an opener and drop Hafeez/Farhat/Butt or drop Abdur Rehman. There are no easy answers. It's still early days for Rehman and he may not be so successful in SA. Afridi could then play as a spinning all-rounder instead of Rehman but he needs to start contributing something with the bat in the middle overs. He's averaging a dismal 12 or 13 in his last 19 ODIs.
I think Malik is an amazing athlete and a match winner. As they say, Form is temporary, Class is forever. Malik and Afridi are going through some turbulance like any other great players do. I remember after 2003 world cup about 6 of our top players were sideline including The great Inzi, check his score in 03 wc matches.
if players are out of form let them rest or play domestic to gain their form back. Pak/Ind cricket fans have very short term memory. if player is doing good they want to worship and carry him on shoulder let him lose the form for few games and they are ready to stone his house.
And yes I still have full faith in Afridi, I bet if we have him bat down the order he can be a good asset for our team as an all rounder. we need to be able to recognize talent and be able to best utilize it to its full portential.

Very sensible and logical combination. I think you picked all the right players, and if we consider all of them then it will also complete a test squad.

Toss: Inzamam has won the toss and Pakistan will bowl first. The pitch looks flat and rather good for batting.
Teams: Pakistan have made four changes to the team that played in Multan. Shahid Afridi, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Faisal Iqbal and Imran Farhat miss out while Inzamam, Yousuf, Umar Gul and Adbur Rehman are back in.
West Indies have made just one change, Corey Collymore replaces Ian Bradshaw.

Pak won the toss and chose to field.
Pak team.
Mohammad Hafeez, Yasir Hameed, Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Kamran Akmal, Naved-ul-Hasan, Abdur Rehman, Mohammad Sami, Umar Gul

Yeah Teaser bhai...Sami??? but I guess he did bowl better than Rao in the last game. But With Rana coming back to form, and Gul shaping up nicely, I don't see a place for Sami in the future with Shoaib and Asif coming back as well. Unless something dramatic happens, which usually does happen whenever he gets dropped :p

Cricinfo:
12.6 Mohammad Sami to Simmons, OUT, played on! the length wasn't very good from Sami, on the shorter side outside the off stump, but it was the offcutter and Simmons played away from his body, tried to hit it too hard through cover, he got an inside edge and it cannoned into off stump
