but WI did not chased in practice matches.
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
West Indian greats are a little too optimistic about this unit. West Indies team was shameful not too long ago and have raised their standards quite a bit in the recent past but they are no world beaters. No one in their right mind can rank them alongside Safies and Aussies. Realistically Pakistan shouldnt have too hard a time seeing off the West Indian's. Pakistan's real test start in the next round. While Asif and Shoaib's absense is a big blow but in all honesty Shoaib had rarley played a complete series in a long time and Asif had just started his career. If Rana, Gul and Sami/Rao can keep a wise head on their shoulders Pakistan still have enough fire power to make it all the way. Razzaq for me is perhaps the biggest blow we recieved but that also gives a chance to Azhar Mahmood to prove his worth. He is not a bad all rounder by any standards and is very unlucky not to be a permanent members of the Pakistani side only because Razzaq was there. Razzaq hasd proven time and again to be a better all rounder then Azhar but this is Azhar's chance to be counted.
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
For me the the only trade of is whether to play Rana or Rao. Sami and Gul must play, they are the most deserving bowlers of the pace stable. Danish surely starts.
I feel Rana for all his stats is woefully out of form, and Rao's close to the stumps release may be successful against the expansive WI top order.
Rationally Rana is far superior to Rao, but for this game only, given Rao's "bowl straight" manta, and Gayle's swish style, I'd opt for Rao.

Don't need to play either of the two if you ask me, don't know what you think of my team above
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
Ok guys…here’s a deal…if Pakistan WINS this game…I will never ever open a thread for a match involving Pakistan.
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
The question remains if they are going to open with Younis Khan or Mohammed Hafeez. Like Warmup game 1, they opened with Younis and Inzamam promised to bat at #4 (during the WC) before he left Pakistan. So I am wondering based on that we might have a different lineup.

I think opening with Hafeez is better bet, but I am still not convinced with Younis coming at #3 in ODIs. I think Yousuf should come #3 with Inzy at 4 and Younis at 5 coz powerplay is for stroke makers and Younis's cricket revolves around scoring singles. Anyway thats just me...............:)

a good suggestion, makes a lot of sense. doubt though that Inzi not being very dynamic would send Younis at 5
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
My Pakistan XI for the game against WI
Imran Nazir Mohammad Hafeez Younis Khan Inzamam-ul-Haq Mohammad Yousuf Shoaib Malik Kamran Akmal Azhar Mahmood Mohammad Sami Umar Gul & Danish Kaneria
In this case who opens the bowling with GUL? don't tell me Sami..
I would like to see Rao open with GUL. So I would replace Azhar with Rao. There are already 2 all rounders in the shape of Hafeez and Malik.

your team selection sounds good but I have feeling Rana will play at someone's expense.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
Of what I saw in the practice match, WI bowling is terribly weak. Except for Powell there is hardly anybody who was threatening to take wickets. Batting wise i thought lara was in prime foarm. He gifted his wicket away in the last practice match, but he may not be so generous this time.
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
With Hafeez and Malik there are 2 spinners and 2 all-rounders. So Mahmood and Kaneria can be rested. Pak can use full (fast, medium-fast) attacking options, that is Sami, Rana, Rao and Gul. This can result in Akhtar-less (ODI) dream-team for Pak. ![]()

I agree with opening with Hafeez as well. But I am not sure what the team management will do as they did in game 1. So that just adds to our unpredictability.
Re: Pakistan vs West Indies - March 13 Sabina Park, Jamaica
pakistan team is always full of surprisez. There are couple of debateable spots in the team but by the end of 1st round they should be done with their experiments and should stick with the best performing 11 . inshallah Pak jeetay gaa:jhanda:

We could opt for Mahmood to strengthen the batting, although he's not a reliable bat.
I feel the team selection panel will probably go that route, leaving Rao and Rana on the bench. Personally, I'd opt for the 3rd specialist seamer.
