Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

MASHA ALLAH… congrats to all :jhanda:

This was not only a contest between the World T20 finalists but also two teams with the best Twenty20 record

Despite the luck-driven nature (ofcourse you need skill and ability too) of this short format Pakistan’s success ratio is an amazing 78%. After today’s loss South Africa are joint second with Sri Lanka (66.66%)

Highlights

Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

Just finished watching the highlights, here's what I noticed:

  1. Pakistan's batting was pretty bad. Shoaib Malik, and Imran Nazir looked horrible. None of their shots had any cricketing merit. I understand T20 is all wham, bam, bang, but there should be a bit of aesthetics involved in batting. Afridi looked decent though, considering the way he usually bats. He jumped out of the crease a few times, leaving the stumps wide open, yet Muralitharan couldn't beat his bat to have him stumped.

  2. I know Mohammad Aamir is young, but he's starting to look ordinary. He's bowling around 135k, and his action is not exciting, and certainly doesn't appear to be a second Wasim Akram. But Akram himself regards him highly, so I still have faith in him.

  3. When did Rana Naved ul Hasan get hair?

  4. Rao Iftikhar Anjum, I have always felt, goes much unappreciated. He's a pretty good ODI and T20 bowler, keeps his seam position upright, swings ball both ways, and good line and length. Plus he isn't too slow either.. around 138-139K.

  5. Rana Naved is a pretty good bowler. He has a beautiful action, a natural outswing, a devastating slow ball, and nice pace. Plus he's a genuine all rounder now, and doesn't even look that old with some hair on his head. The only thing is, he sometimes gets into a zone where he gets thrashed all around the park.

  6. Mohammad Ajmal is a nice addition to Pakistan's bowling lineup. He has been a regular since the Australia series, and with him around, Pakistan doesn't really need Shoaib Malik. Especially when Malik's batting isn't clicking.

  7. Afridi makes a good captain. He should use the next few years to solidify his place in the Tests, so he's ready to fully take over the mantle afer Younis Khan retires.

  8. I think smaller boundaries in T20 demean cricket. There's no sense of accomplishment when a slight jab can result in a six.

^ Interesting comments

52 runs is still a big margin of defeat in ODIs never mind T20

I thought Imran Nazir played a few good shots. He has power and his chipped shots over long on were quite deliberate I believe. They may not be very aesthetic to watch but they were mighty effective. Sometimes you have to play like that in ODI/T20 in order to clear the field when all but 2 fielders are inside the circle. Malik played a couple of cracking straight drives as well. Not sure about Yousuf in T20 (Kallis proved SA and everyone wrong though in recent World T20) but Fawad could always come into the side in place of either Malik or Misbah.

Some of Rana's inswinging yorkers remind me of Waqar and he probably deserves to be in the side in ODI & T20 right now. Rao has bowled well on occasions but I don't think he w'd be playing once Gul and Asif are both fit and available.

Aamer has done well so far. He is still only 17 and this was only his first full tour. He is no Akram but he seems a much better prospect to me than Sohail Tanvir. Let's see how he develops over the next few years...with extra muscle mass he should gain a yard or two in pace.

Not sure about Afridi 29 (unofficially probably 32 or 33 atleast!!) as test captain. First he has to cement his place in the side as a batsman or bowler. Younis 31 can still go on for another 4 or 5 years (in tests atleast)

Lets talk when Pak plays India in T20 :D

Congrats on winning this match !!

Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

^ rest of the teams around the world kia shadi main aai hain. Pakistan has beaten them in the recent World Cup. and why one has to play against India to prove himself?

Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

Because Pak lost to India the last couple of times the two countries played a 20-20 game.

lay loo yeh purani jalan kay liya hi hay...

abhi say lay loo, lagani tu app logooN nay hi hay.. as we seldom discuss indian cricket, but you have certain JEALOUSY from Pakistan and its cricket team... so take it,

yes lets talk when India will qualify to play in the T20 World Cup. You are comparing T20 champions with a team which didn't even play the last T20 world cup :)

Haha good one :k:

Good one. Lets talk about the "practice" match that India won which made their fans proud for a longggggg time. lolz

Yaar, you know what happened when India “played” in the 2007 T20 WC finals  Wasn’t it good for you that India did not qualify in 2009 ?

Forget T20 finals - beat India in a practice match first, and then lets talk. Till then, you can keep beating the “Pakistan is the T20 Champion” drum :hehe:

Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

^ so according to you winning a practice match is more important then winning the final?

Also it is not only T20 please check Test and ODI records too. :)

Lets not go on a tangent here - we are talking only about T20 and only about India vs. Pak.

Full credit to Pak for winning the T20 WC (in the absence of India ;)) and for beating SL in the last game.

^ nobody asked them to miss the tournament, but wait please tell us why India was absent from the T20 WC? :)

Re: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Twenty20 International @ Colombo - Wednesday, August 12

who says that india was absent?

Please read post #77. Thanks :)
