Yaar it was in wake of the disappointment of the ODI-Series agains SA ..... for sure i know we've the firepower (in batting) to counter NZ on home soil as we have it also agains SA but sometimes our batsmen just make sh** of it .......

For some ppl here it is a disappointment as these ppl (me also belong to it) live or die by this team ..... but sometimes it's heartbreaking to watch how irresponsble they play as a unit on the field

No. looks like he will not take any further part in the game, and hopefully we won't need his batting services in the second innings.

Shoaib and Kaneria have South Africa in trouble
The Wisden Bulletin by Siddhartha Vaidyanathan
October 20, 2003

2:10amSouth Africa 320 and 241 (Gibbs 59 *, Kaneria 5 for 46, Akhtar 4 for 36) lead Pakistan 401 (Umar 111, Kamal 99, Adams 7-128) by 160 runs
Scorecard

Danish Kaneria capped a marathon spell of bowling by running through the South African tail, as they were all out for 241. He bowled unchanged from the start of play and flummoxed the lower-order with fizzing googlies.

After Kaneria got Bocher, Paul Adams was totally deceived by a straighter ball that crashed into his back leg and was plumb in front. He then got the big wicket of Gary Kirsten, who didn’t read the wrong one and attempted to loft him out of the ground, got a leading edge and Yousuf Youhana gobbled up the steepling skier.

Pollock had no clue either, as the ball sneaked through the gate and bowled him out. Mushtaq Ahmed – in his first over of the day – showed off his own googly and bowled Andre Nel through the gate.

South Africa lost their last 4 wickets for 4 runs – all too googlies - and Kaneria gave Pakistan a great chance of going one up in the series .

1:30amSouth Africa 320 and 211 for 6 (Kirsten 33*, Pollock 4*; Akhtar 4-36) lead Pakistan 401 (Umar 111, Kamal 99, Adams 7-128) by 130 runs

Danish Kaneria’s probing spell accounted for Mark Boucher, but Gary Kirsten held fort and took South Africa to 211 for 6 one hour after lunch on the fourth day. Shoaib Akhtar, who wrecked the innings in the morning, had pulled a muscle before lunch and did not come on to the field.

Kaneria bowled a marathon spell - unchanged since morning - but Boucher showed aggressive intent and swept anything even slightly full. However he paid for his get-on-with-things attitude as he poked at a good length ball that ballooned gently to Imran Farhat at forward short leg.

Kirsten – the wounded soldier – battled on and gathered five fours in an innings where he was extra positive. The bruise he suffered in the first innings had no impact on his style. If anything, it only made him a more attacking proposition.

LunchSouth Africa 320 and for 171 for 5 (Boucher 7*, Kirsten 7*, Akhtar 4 for 36) lead Pakistan 401 (Umar 111, Kamal 99, Adams 7-128) by 90 runs

Shoaib Akhtar’s breathtaking burst of pace reduced South Africa to 171 for 5 at lunch on the fourth day at Lahore. With only 72 runs conceded and the four crucial wickets snapped up, Pakistan established a firm grip on the game.

The day began with the pace and spin combination of Akhtar and Danish Kaneria. But it was the pace that proved red hot, and in Akhtar’s second over, Boeta Dipanaar - shuffling across the crease - was lucky to survive a huge appeal for lbw. In the next over, in a brash fit of fury, he tried to pull a wide delivery, got a top edge and was easily caught by Yousuf Youhana at midwicket (104 for 2).

If Dippenaar was a victim of overambition, then Herschelle Gibbs fell to Akhtar’s pinpoint precision. He received a perfectly directed bouncer that climbed and took the glove, before hitting his shoulder and lobbing up to Taufeeq Umar at first slip.

Jacques Kallis drove with stylest during his short tenure in the middle, but was finally undone by a Shoaib snorter. The short ball was shaping in and Kallis looked to pull it to the fence. He ended up getting an edge that hurried to the keeper (154 for 4).

Kaneria bowled a consistent spell and had all the batsmen in trouble. He dismissed Neil McKenzie, who tried to sweep him round the corner, missed and lost his leg stump. He nearly had the wicket of Gary Kirsten as well, when the ball took the inside edge and trickled on to the stumps. The bails popped up, but neatly nestled back into their original position, making him the third batsman in the match to survive in such a way.

Akhtar pulled a muscle soon after and was forced to leave the field. Mark Boucher played an audacious pull shot that bisected two fielders, and with Kirsten showing no signs of mental disarray, he continued pulling deliveries that reared up face-high. It is on such pillars of courage and steel that South Africa base their cricket, and they will need more of the same to counter the Pakistani bowling after lunch – by hook or by pull.

I hope both opener can finish off the job ..... Insha'Allah we'll win

This small total remindes me of Faisalabad 97...also Moin Playing is kindaa scary ...but he can do nothing alone i hope so.

Bad news::::: However, Shoaib is out of action for three weeks after pulling a muscle.](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Pakistan poised for victory)

well i think it won’t have any impact on him as NZ will arrive in about three weeks in PAK to play but the only problem will be the ban which if not lifted will cause him to sit out the 1st & 2nd ODI vs. NZ at home
