Pakistan vs South Africa - Test Series

Amir Sohail made a wondrefull comment once again which amused me to a great extent…

when Pollock came in, Shoaib was bowling…
Pollock had a narrow escape of Shoaib’s rising delivery…

Amir quoted"" Shaun Pollock the technically BEST batsman in South AFrica side couldnt play shoaib’s delivery"

The Dean Jones responded, " I dont know anything abut that…"

well i was like :rotfl: Shaun Pollocl technically best batsman.. in SA squad… talk about Kirsten,Gibbs and Kalliss and he is commenting on Pollock…

:hehe:

Lets make AAMIR the moderator of “Jokes” forum

First of all it says in one of the articles that Taufeeq Umar got his fingers on a high catch off of Kirsten. I dont think Taufeeq got a hand to it. I posted the picture in this thread as it happened, Taufeeq jumped but the ball went between his hands. It was too quick I think. As far as Moin's dropped catch, that thing didnt carry and had Rashid's appeal wasnt in Moin's mind he probably would have appealed too but I guess he didnt wanted to serve the same fate as Rashid.

Which catch are you talking about? The dropped one and the 'not carried' one are different.

South Africa’s Kirsten suffers fractured nose

LAHORE, Pakistan, Oct 17 , 2003 (Reuters)

Gary Kirsten

South Africa’s Gary Kirsten will know within 24 hours if he can bat again in the first test against Pakistan after being struck by a Shoaib Akhtar bouncer on Friday.

“The next 24 hours are crucial. He will know after that if he can bat again in the match,” Gerald de Kock, media manager of the South African team, told reporters.

“Kirsten has sustained two minor fractures on the bridge of his nose and below his left eye. Plus he has also had 10 stitches to close a deep gash,” he said.

“But Kirsten remains positive and he was fine after treatment at a local hospital.”

The veteran of 94 tests was hit below his left eye around his cheekbone when he completely missed a bouncer from fast bowler Akhtar with his score on 53.

Kirsten, who turns 36 next month, will be particularly anxious to make a quick recovery as he had targeted the series against West Indies starting later this year to become the first South African to play 100 tests.

But the shortening of South Africa’s tour of Pakistan means he will have to continue until next year’s tour of New Zealand to reach that target.

Kirsten is South Africa’s highest scorer with 6,595 runs in 93 tests, including 18 centuries.

that i know alright, i saw that. i was asking if Lahori was talking of different instances.

Actually it wasn’t Amir Sohail who labeled Pollock “Most Technically Correct Batsman in the team”
But Ian Chappell couple years back.

A very entertaining Day 1 of this series and plenty more to come.
That 1 over from Shoaib was the highlight of the day.
His brilliant yoker to dismiss McKenzie and knocking the living lights out of Kirsten was another.

As a human being, I felt very sad on what happend to Kirsten, but as an avid fast bowler fan, it was a great joy, and I was hoping he could have done the same to Andre Nel to shut his big mouth.

I thought Mushy bowled well, specially in his first spell, he had both Smith and Gibbs all confused, they had no idea how to play him in the begining, the only player understood him completely was Kirsten.

Kaneria for me was the star of the day, he bowled 21 straight overs, and should have taken 4 wickets instead of 2.

And Shoaib Malik was the big surprise, he was bowling like a real off spinner, if given chance, he can become a specialist.
And the doosra is becoming more common these days.

About our batting, 320 is a very tough one, though the pitch will become even flatter in the upcoming days, our batting is very fragile.

Ouch! I hope Gary is okay to play in the rest of the series though i think the rest of the test may be a bit too soon - being fair you would really expect a player of Gary’s experience to have played that delivery better than he did - I think to be honest he made the wrong deicion about his future - i think now would have been a pretty good time for him to retire but he decided to go on.

As for the match itself well surprisingly again South Aftica start of poorly - bad performance all round with the bat - they’ll be looking to do better in the field tomorrow - yet again relying on the ever accurate Shaun Pollock?

:smokin2:

^^ wah wah :k:

poor Gary

I am really sad kirsten got hit like that. I don't remember the last time he got into a verbal fight with any member of the opposition. He's a senior member, and acts like one. Such a nice guy. Really sad to see him injured. And I agree with umair. I would'nt be half as sad if it were Andre Nel in place of Gary.
