Kaneria picked for third ODI

Kaneria picked for third ODI

Wisden Cricinfo staff - October 6, 2003

Danish Kaneria and Naved Latif have been inducted into Pakistan’s squad for the third one-day international against South Africa, on October 7.

Kaneria replaces Mushtaq Ahmed, who has been ruled out of the one-day series because of an abdominal muscle strain. Naved has been brought in as a stand-by for Inzamam-ul-Haq, whose hamstring injury may keep him out of the game. Salman Butt has been dropped from the squad

What logic !!!

I don't think the selectors should pick players like Salman Butt if they are going to be dropped without getting a game. My view is that once a young player has been identified as a potential international, he should be given a decent run in the side so he can be properly assessed. The same sort of treatment that Junaid Zia got in fact.

Salman Butt has been added in th squad as the opener. and after Hafeez's three wickets and good batting by yasser ,there is no chance that he can make into final 11..
Naved latif (Middle order batsman) has been added in the squad as a replacement for inzimam (again Middle order),and he score some useful runs in the practise match against SA

:hehe: :k:

what has he done to be retained? Junaid Zia on the other hand has taken 4 wickets against SL… see, thats how the talent shouts!

The point is you bring someone in the squad, don't even play him and then frop him. Weird logic to say the least.

i think they should make one big change in the team for 3rd odi : razzaq should be replaced.

Guys, just heard that Mohammad Sami is also doubtful for the third ODI..

This is what i don't like when the team is doing so good, they have to change it. Players who get hurt are OK, but i don't like it when they play a player just because he has to play a match.

My team for 3rd ODI

  • Muhammad Hafeez
  • Yasir Hameed
  • Yousuf Youhana
  • Younus Khan
  • Inzemam Ul Haq
  • Shoaib Malik
  • Rashid Latif
  • Saqlain Mushtaq
  • Shoaib Akhter
  • Mohamad Sami
  • Umar Gul

And now take a look at this:

Gibbs Is COMMING:mad3:

Gibbs comes through first fitness test

Wisden Cricinfo staff

October 6, 2003

Herschelle Gibbs took a full part in South Africa’s optional training session today ahead of tomorrow’s third ODI against Pakistan at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Gibbs batted for 15 minutes before being put through a set of exercises by SA’s physiotherapist Shane Jabaar. He then returned to the nets to bat for a further 20 minutes, during which he showed no ill-effects from his stomach problem. Gibbs missed the first two matches of the series in Lahore with what the medics described as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. He will undergo a final fitness test shortly before tomorrow’s match.

Neil McKenzie also came through training without any problems. He had suffered a back spasm in Friday’s eight-run defeat, but did manage to play on Sunday.

Meanwhile the South African squad was bolstered by the arrival of the inform Free State batsman Morne van Wyk, who was called up as batting cover and will be considered for selection for tomorrow’s match. van Wyk, 24, has been in rich form – only last week he completed a century and two fifties for South Africa A in their representative matches against the touring Sri Lanka A side.

Pakistan lead the five-match one-day series 2-0. Tomorrow’s game at Faisalabad is the only one of the five that does not involve floodlit play.

There will be few or atleast one drop from the current PAK squad to make room for our great bowler Junaid Zia since he is back from the lankan tour. Freakin Dad n Son.

That’ll somewhat solve chasing problem for SA. But Mohammad Sami’s being doubtful for next match is a major concern if what hello143 learnt is right.

Sami not playing next match? any source?
next ODI will be a tough one. Gibbs coming, Inzi out. Let's see what happens.
