Phew.. that was close. Its been a while since rain was on our side. :)

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Two aliens were visiting
Earth to research the local customs. They split up so
that they could learn more in the time allowed. When
they met to share their knowledge, the first alien
told of a religious ceremony it had seen.

"I went to a large green field shaped like a meteorite
crater. Around the edges, several thousand worshippers
gathered. Then two priests walk to the centre of the
field to a rectangular area and hammer six spears into
the ground, three at each end. Then eleven more
priests walk out, clad in white robes. Then two high
priests wielding clubs walk to the centre and one of
the other priests starts throwing a red orb at the
ones with the clubs."

"Gee," replied the other alien, "what happens next?"

"Then it begins to rain."

:)

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007

The almighty Mohammad Akram thinks otherwise; that Kamran Akmal will be persisted with until the end of the World Cup.

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

That is quite true ^^ he will be glued with the team and open the innings "I guess" in the world cup 07 as well regardless of his failure or success, in order to give extra bowling fire power and I think its a 50/50 chance either it will back-fire or succeed. Lets just hope he doesnt drop any catches or miss any stumping chances behind the wicket.

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Why are they not persisting with Mohammad Hafeez? Hafeez and Imran Nazir seem like a decent combo..

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Hope is we can all do at this point; the issue has been dragged beyond it's allowed limit. If he had been 'rested' right after the England series, he would have been back, fully healed and patched up, right about now. In the meantime, we would have seen the qualities of the new blood for the entire West Indian series, and had we followed this procedure, we would have them both handy for the World Cup, after seeing their individual performances in back-to-back series. There is no use in dropping him now, is it? There isn't even time left on the clock.

It is, certainly. Having Imran Farhat in the team was one thing. It was understood that perhaps they are going for a left/right-hand opening batsmen, but the tactic itself backfired due to issues widely known. Now that we are on the fringes of being back to square one and moving on in the process, Hafeez was, and still is, a miles better option.

Having Kamran Akmal as an opener is an impotent justification and a desperate attempt of including him in the team at all costs, despite lackluster performances.

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Agree with Dhobi Bhai, Imran Nazir and Hafeez seem best available option at present. Hafeez seems pretty decent if he can improve on his slip catching practice shots.

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

I disagree. With Maliks form we should open with Malik and Nazir. Nazir should hit it out and Malik stabilize. IMHO.

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

I don't think Malik should be persisted as opener, he struggles in the early overs (even if he is "hard-working") esp in SAffie environment, let him come later in the innings when acceleration is needed (before Afridi and Razzaq).

Re: Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI, Feb 09, 2007 - GAME ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Agreed. Nazir and Hafeez seem to be the best bet at the moment for the opening slots.
