We lack a captain with brains. He handled the bowling badly towards the end and gave away 96 runs in the last 10 overs. His own bowling is a libaility and he should be dropped. I have said this when we were winning against Zimbabwe, so there is no sour grapes here. The man is out of his depth, both as a captain and as a bowler.

afsos sad afsos
another display of pathetic batting against a stronger team. these are same Saleem Ilahi, Yousuf Youhanna, Inzimam etc, and we are beaten by 132 ![]()
Satianaas!![]()
i wish that they will do better in the second ODI by changing the openers!
inshallah
I agree with Zalim. Every penny is worth it the quality is absolutely amazing.
back to reality huh? sorry to say but I didnt see any improvement , this is the same team that had miserable run in past series excluding the Zimb tour and ,No, Saeed wouldnt have been an answer. Its the whole pakistani team attitude.
Taufiq has limited shots selection he was strgulling from the beginning. Saleem Elahi was very very ordinary at best. He was very lucky through out the innings. I don't know how many times he got an outside edge and got away with it.
Inzi and Youhanna were frustrated and eventually got out by very bad shots. They should have been more responsible.
It was asking too much from the rest of the batsmen when the front four four failed miserably.
My Suggestion, give Elahi some more time and bring in Faisal Iqbal inplace of Taufiq. I don't see Taufiq improving , he needs a batting coach.
Waqar made a bad decision of letting razzaq and sami bowl at the end of the overs. Razzaq is known for short deliveries and is more effective in the middle of the innings.IT is easy to slog at short length ball at the last 10-15 overs.
Sami is a good bowler but still not experience enough to handle the pressure
Saqlain's bowling was mediocre. There wasnt any turn for him or neither it gave any scare to the batsmen. They played him with great ease.
Wasim akram was brilliant that is somewhat encouraging .An inclusion of Shaoib akhtar should boost the bowling attack.
ZImb tour was an indication of our bowling dept that tend to get relaxed at the later stage of the game. REcall the chase by zimbawane twice close to 300.

Pakistan can't play with the Big Boys

Pakistan is 4'th in the ODI rankings. They count as one of the "Big Boys". You can't win every match.
Today was their first ODI in South Africa, without Shaoib Achtar, without a solid opening pair, with Waquar Younis not bowling well. There is still 4 matches to go.
"ehsan", I personnally like Waquar Younis as a bowler - if only for the way he terrorised the SA batsmen the first time they played against him.
1-0 for South Africa with 4 to go.........
The bowling at the end reminded me of Indian bowling where their bowlers regularly get smashed for 70 runs each.
Deciding to bat second may have been a tough decision by Waqar but a smart one. Our batsman need to get practice batting second before the WC, so batting second shouldn't be an excuse.
Our bowling in the first half of the innings was super, Sami, Razzaq, Wasim, Saqlain bowled superbly but Waqar's stupid decision to finish of Wasim's over early on was probably the biggest mistake of the first inning. Razzaq was definatly struggling mainly coming back from his injury. But the last 20 overs were a nightmare for Pakistan.
Waqar's bowling was 3rd class, and he never looked dangerous.
Lets just hope the loss came because of the strange conditions to our players.
I never expected our batsman to do well in these pitches. Like I said before against Zimbabwe you maybe able to score runs but against South Africa in their backyard its a much different deal.
Once again Waqar and the management make a stupid mistake by not bringing in Faisal for Taufeeq who doesn't know how to play one day cricket.
The 2nd big mistake was of bringing extra player in place of Afridi, he would have been a perfect bowler to take break the long partnerships we saw today in the first inning. I never expected him to do anything with the bat.
All in all South Africa played better specially after the horrible start they had due to brilliant bowling by Wasim. I hope our bowlers get feel of these pitches and know what kind of line and length they need to bowl to South Africa batsmans.
I wouldn't be dissappointed with this loss, 4 more matches to go, Shoaib, Afridi, Faisal should be brought in place for Sami, Saleem Elahi, Faisal Iqbal.
Our batting line up looks really weak at the moment. Only Youhanna and Inzimam look like they can cope at the highest level although both failed today - the rest all looked very ordinairy once put against a decent bowling line up. Taufeeq got a good one but most just couldn't handle the accuracy and discipline of the SA bowlers.
The batting was pathetic and from the first ball there seemed to be no self belief or fight. I felt sorry for the public who turned up to watch that, it didn't look like a Pakistan team out there. Still, I expect we can only improve we can definitely play better than that.
Captaincy by Waqar was as usual pretty directionless and his bowling looked too friendly as well. Akram showed who is the real boss with a superb spell and the great man should be bowling at the end, not Razaq. Alll the bowlers apart from Akram the world cup winning Champ* bowled too short. Sami can be excused as he lacks experience and he definitely bowled a good first spell when he got rid of a couple of top order SA batsmen.
Waqar must bowl a good line and length like other oldies such as Alan Donald. the old pace isn't there so when he gets it even slightly wrong he gets treated like a club bowler.
Finally congrats to the South Africans who bowled fantastically well to their field and good knocks by Jonty and Pollock.

Ehsan, i agree wid u 100%. Iv been sayin this 4 years. Wasim discarded him not on a personal note but bcoz hes 2 xpensive and hes no more dan a medium pacer, another thing is his fielding, hes a joke! I dont believe in xperimenting just b4 da WC but we hav 2 get rid of him now if we r 2 stand ne chance of winning the WC. Zia, do every pak fan wid knowledge a favour n make Wasim captain till da WC. People like Saby n Umair rate him as a world beater but dat was 10 yrs ago. Hes not da same nemore.

what a lame excuse.fact is Waqar is a lousy captain and a liability to team.If Pakistan plays him in world cup, opposite team will have 12 players. :)
