It was correct to send Black Caps to Pakistan, says Cairns](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/031207/323/egh2w.html)
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AFP) - New Zealand captain Chris Cairns said team chiefs had made the right decision to send the Black Caps to Pakistan despite security fears.
Speaking at the end of five one-day series that his side lost 5-0, he said the tour had been a success despite early fears for the players’ safety in the strife-torn country.
“I can only speak from my experience and thats been very good. It was a correct decision to send us and I hope that other teams follow because it was good that cricket was played in Pakistan,” Cairns said in post-match comments Sunday.
Pakistan beat an understrength New Zealand team Sunday, without seven of their key players and regular captain Stephen Fleming, by 49 runs to register the emphatic 5-0 win.
The tour was delayed by a week after four of New Zealand’s players – Craig McMillan, Scot Styris, Ian Butler and Lou Vincent – pulled out after they received threats of death if they toured Pakistan.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to the tour after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) threatened to pull out of the reply tour of New Zealand starting later this month.
“It was wonderful to be in Pakistan as we were looked after well,” said Cairns, who has now lost six of the seven one-day matches he captained.
When asked is he was satisfied with the result, Cairns replied in the negative.
“I had to say no, it would have been nice to come away with at least one win but … it’s all about learning,” said the 33-year-old Cairns.
Pakistan openers Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed hit a world record four century stands in the series.
The New Zealand captain singled out Hamish Marshall as the find of the tour.
“I dont think enough players put their hands up and I think all the players acknowledge that but only Hamish Marshall produced the goods.”
Marshall scored a century and two fifties in an otherwise unimpressive display of batting.
A delighted Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq refused to agree that New Zealand’s was a second grade team.
“It’s international cricket and there is no such concept, we too played with an understrength team against Australia last year so no one can take away the credit of the 5-0 win,” said Inzamam.
“We were the better side with Farhat and Hameed giving us good starts while Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami and Shabbir Ahmed bowled us to wins.”
The New Zealand team leaves for home on Monday morning from Karachi.
Well played Pakistan and specially the 2 openers.
Though I have failed to realize that why have we gone past 300 mark only once in the series, regardless of 3 brilliant 100 opening partnerships while batting first.
A score of 277 on a flat wicket is almost equavilent to a score of 220 on a regular track.
These guys have played well, but when you build such a strong partnership of 197, you also have to speed up the run rate @ times.
It may have not mattered against this New Zealand team but in the future it will be a huge factor.

Kiwi pace-man Bond to miss Pakistan series
(Updated at 1020 PST)
AUCKLAND: Paceman Shane Bond will miss the home series against Pakistan, which begins later this month after a scan showed fresh damage to his troublesome back, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced on Monday.
Bond joins batsman Nathan Astle as absentees for the two tests and five one-day internationals against Pakistan. The first test in Hamilton starts on December 19.
NZC medical coordinator Warren Frost said Bond’s scan did not reveal a new fracture. However, it has shown that there is increased sclerosis (bony activity) and stress where the bone is re-forming from the stress fracture sustained in May, he said.
Frost could not put a time frame on Bond’s return to cricket but said he faced several months on the sidelines. New Zealand also play hosts to South Africa in February.
Astle underwent knee surgery earlier this year but the injury flared up again on the tour to India in October. Captain Stephen Fleming is also doubtful for the matches against Pakistan because of an abdominal strain.
Sad news.. I wanted this guy to test our batsmen.. our new batsmen needs to be tested on bouncy wickets and different conditions. but ![]()
Splendid performance and a G-R-E-A-T team effort. :k:
