The 4th and 5th ODI between Pakistan and Indian cricket team will take place in the historical city of Lahore. The stadium is without a shadow of doubt the best Pakistan has to offer in terms of capacity and facilities. Gaddafi stadium is also the headquarters of Pakistan cricket board. Though it was always one of the premier cricket centers in Pakistan along with Karachi’s national stadium, the renovation for the world cup 96 final really gave the stadium’s look a new boost. It’s designed by the famous architect Nayaar Ali Dada. Right next to the stadium is Alhamra open air theater and National Hockey stadium. Also in the neighborhood is the best place to get ganney (Sugarcane) ka juice in Lahore perhaps even Pakistan. Even when no matches are played people come in large numbers just to enjoy that treat.
The teams I think are staying at Pear Continental Hotel. At least that’s where they use to stay when I was in Pakistan. When Pakistan team is staying at Lahore just for practice sessions they stay at the Best Western right next to Liberty market since its closer to the stadium then PC. I have witnessed a few matches at the stadium, including the match where Ijaz Ahmad played perhaps the best innings of his life and slaughtered Indian bowlers.
Lahore has produced some of the finest cricketers for Pakistan. While many names come to mind, the two names that stand out are that of Imran Khan and Wasim Akram. Apart from those two legends some other famous cricketers from Lahore are Amir Sohial, Ramiz Raja, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Yousuf Youhana, Saqlain Mushtaq just to name a few.
Cricket is no doubt a game of chance but in this all important game that’s coming up, history does not favor the Indian team. India has never been able to beat Pakistan at Lahore. I think the reason has been that most other tracks in Pakistan are absolutely dull, while Lahore pitch normally has some grass on it which assist the fast bowlers, particularly at the start of day match. This game might be a little different since it’s a day & night game and their will be dew on the ground when the second innings start. If Inzimam’s luck holds out yet again and he wins the toss I think he should certainly bat first and set Indian batsmen a target. I think even 260-275 on this pitch would be very defendable. With a little grass, moisture our bowling can take advantage of the conditions earlier in the innings plus Indian batsmen will have to play under lights and its always a little more difficult to bat under lights. Still they got a very solid batting line-up so one never knows what’s going to happen.
The three matches played so far have been absolutely thrilling, the quality of cricket in this tournament so far has been wonderful, lets hope the momentum continues and if it does we are in for another fine day of cricket. Not a lot of time is left in the match now and both the teams and the thousands of people who will be there to see the game must be very anxious for the start. The Indian team does have its back to the wall at this time, they loose this one and the series is all over for them. Nevertheless they have a very talented team and they can definitely stage a come back and win the next two so Pakistan team cant take it easy.

waisay, don’t you think that defending a target could be tricky for Pakistan? Didn’t Pak lose against England whilst defending a sizable total in Lahore? Even the great Wasim Akram struggled to control the ball because of the excessive dew and all. Flintoff took our bowling apart that day if I remember correctly. I would generally prefer that Pak defend but this one could be tricky, yaara.

quite unlikely I would think especially since Shabbir performed so well and he was the one who'd been replaced with Saqi.

no it is day and night. so it would start later.
Its day/night match. 3 AM add +10 hours gives us the pak starting time. Around 12-1PM lahore time.
I will only wake up at 3 so that I can hear Imran's comments. :D
