Some1, I got a christian friend with that first name... its quite common in Pakistan actually - its the equivalent for "Joseph" and my friend's opinion is that it makes sense to be called by the Arabic/Urdu equivalent in the context of societal norms. Similarly you'll also hear Yaqoub for Jacob etc.
