Re: Pakistan v England 4th ODI - 21st FEB 2012

Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq spoke to the media at the DSC following his team's fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of England.

Main points from his press conference:

"Myself coming up the order is not an issue as such. When I come to bat up the order, people say Umar Akmal should be sent up the order. When we promote him, then some people say I should be coming up the order."

"We are trying to set such a batting order that one of the batsmen in the middle plays the anchor role while the other keeps the scoreboard ticking."

"We WERE playing attacking cricket [when England were reduced to 68/4]. We were trying to attack with our main strike bowler, Shahid Afridi and Abdul Rehman was bowling. I was bringing on Saeed Ajmal to try and get a wicket. But we should give credit to England - the way Pietersen and Keiswetter built their partnership, they played really well under pressure. They not only maintained the run rate but also took the game away from us."

"I think all of the new players who are performing well in Pakistan are getting chances - they're being inducted into the team."

"Applying yourself is very important. To give a finishing touch to these performances is necessary. Any player who comes from our domestic cricket takes some time to settle here."

"Azhar Ali has started to prove himself. He played a really good innings. Then there's Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal - I think youngsters are coming in. But you can't play all youngsters in one go. It will create even more problems for you. I think maturity is needed and we are trying to settle them one by one."

Regarding the captain for 2015 World Cup: "I've never said that I want to be the captain or that I want to remain as captain."

"He [Malik] is a mature player. So we tried to utilise him somewhere in the middle order and take some advantage of his bowling, considering that England is struggling against spin bowling. He adds an extra spinning option. If you look at the domestic circuit, there's no upcoming spinner-batsman who can bowl 5-6 or 7-8 overs alongside batting well."

"Malik played somewhat positively today. Sometimes your decisions don't pay. But he's a senior player, I hope and pray he performs well for Pakistan in the coming matches."

"It was a tight match. Hafeez was bowling well from one end and our main bowlers were bowling from the other end. So I was trying to attack with the main bowler in the hope of getting a wicket."

"England improved. they really batted well after the Test series. They started playing the spinners well. The contribution from their batsmen at the top was remarkable. They got 4 centuries in 4 matches - that was the difference."

"Pakistan's performance regressed, even in the bowling department. In the Test matches, England hardly got 200 in 6 innings. Fielding wasn't good. In batting, same mistake - we're getting starts and not converting them into big scores. If there's no big innings from your top order, then you're in problem."

"Alastair Cook is a bit of a concern for us. Today, we got him early and England were under a lot of pressure even though they were chasing a small total."

Regarding the upcoming T20I series: "Even though we lost today, we can take a lot of positives from here. The team played better than the last 3 games. Still, we need to work in various areas. There may be one or two changes but the team will remain more or less the same."

"We We just want to play positive cricket just like we started today, but we couldn't finish it off in the end today. I think our approach was good towards the start and even in bowling."

Regarding Imran Khan's comments that Pakistan should be more aggressive in T20Is: "I think Twenty20 is all about aggression. But I don't know what the meaning of aggression is. I think you have to play disciplined cricket at the same time. If you keep repeating the same mistakes in batting, bowling and fielding, you can't be aggressive. If you're aggressive, you HAVE to be disciplined. You must know when to attack and when to defend. I think that balance is the key."
