This game is heading for a draw. We should get some sort of lead, let us say 30 runs,. 50 would be nice given that we threw away the chance of a major lead.
We'll have to bat all of day 4, perhaps into day 5. Inshallah putting 250+ on the board, defending 280-300 in the last innings of the game.
I too must question the field placings. Why was point so deep? Easy singles add up!
Inzi is not getting any younger at 36yrs…even if he learns from his mistakes which I doubt very much, how long will he be able to apply his experience? Till he crosses 40?
Our team has been fielding pretty well since a while now and it was strange to see them dropping so many catches again. Old habits die hard I guess.
For England to win this match, they would do well to bat aggressively tomorrow morning and get as close to pakistan score and this is our best chance. It would be interesting when do our openers get the chance to bat again because the timing of it willdetermine the approach for the rest of game. In all likelyhood, pakistan will play it safe forcing England to make all the daring steps to have a chance at winning series.
Big time disappointment in fielding, Kaneria, Hasan Raza, Kamran Akmal and Younis Khan each missed 1 or more chances of getting a wicket (catch/stumping) and we end up losing much of lead and get only 4 wickets in all day’s toil. 391/7 is not bad at all, their tail may endup adding another 40-60 runs… means almost no lead. All fielders must be made to sit on Darrel Hair’s lap
Its ‘DRAW’ written all over it. and I would be happy with it too as Afridi already replaced the ‘cherry’ on the cake with a Sh*t glob so who wants to win a test like this one ,
Next to a more certain draw...Pakistan still can win thismatch...tomorrow morning...Akhtar clean-up the tail quickly within the first 5 overs...
Then Pakistan play some 70 overs ODI style...at an RR of around 5.0...that should yield some 350 runs plus the lead...let England chase some 400 runs...let them start to play some 5-10 overs before the stumps...
PS: I don't think Pakistan will waste chances by misfielding on the last day...hmmmmmm
Pak will play it safe, and so they should after squandering any chance of victory today. The onus is on England to take the initiative and make some bold decisions. But I doubt they have the spine for that, especially considering how their last day chase went in Multan.
Barring some remarkable cricket like knocking off the last 3 batsmen with a hatrick and another manic century by Afridi as an opener, I see England getting more or less the same score Pakistan did. DRAW.
However, our failure to end the series can prove quite consequential. If the wicket at Lahore is as flat as this one (and no reason to suspect that it won't be), then England can post a huge 500+ first innings total if they win the toss. It will be interesting to see how Pakistan play it. They should learn from the mistakes of India who were in a similar situation against them earlier in Bangalore.
