Pakistan batting has been fickle to say the least, brilliant when it can click yet below average when they falter. How does one explain Pakistan's mercurial nature? We are blessed with exceptional talent which can beat any side on its day, BUT lack consistency thus the poor test match record.
Consistency does not come only with player selection, it also depends on the nature of selection. Playing Malik as a opener is just another example, where we should be experimenting with local specialist openers our team management focuses on a player with established one day credentials. India on the other hand has fared much better when it comes to batting cause they have always relied upon specialists to fill the required position. Same ca nbe said for Australia which has another advantage of having an excellent bowling and fielding record thus their complete domination.
We cannot depend upon patches of brilliance, there has to be consistency and that should be reflected in team selection.
