That instance where Pieterson backed away and still played a shot that was caught should have been out by the rules of cricket.
For the ball to have been dead, in accordance with the umpires ruling, the batsman should not have attempted to play at it unless in self defense for fear of injury.
Not that it will matter much in the overall scheme of things, but oh well.

Law for Dead Ball
Law 23.3.b (v) states: "Either umpire shall call "dead ball" when he is satisfied that for an adequate reason the striker is not ready for the delivery of the ball and, if the ball is delivered, makes no attempt to play it.
This means Pietersen was as he attempted shot but Umpire saved him by giving dead ball. Poor Umpiring !!!!

**KP himself has just explained what happened when he backed away. He heard the umpire shout dead ball before the ball was bowled, but went through with his shot because the ball was following him a touch down the leg side. Asif, meanwhile, thought the call came afterwards. So that's all nice and clear, then.
