Blast disrupts gas supply to Sukkur, other towns

SUKKUR: A 16-inch main gas pipeline was blown up Tuesday night by some unknown saboteurs, disrupting gas supply to many big and small towns, including, Sukkur, Rohri, Panno Aqil, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze.

Heavy contingents of police rushed to the scene and cordoned off entire area. According to bomb disposal squad, the explosion was caused with the help of two local made bombs. According to the SSGC officials the repair work was taken in hand early morning Wednesday, and the gas supply to the affected areas would be restored till 9:00 Wednesday night. Blast suspends train traffic in Balochistan

LAHORE: An explosion blew up rail track near Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan on Thursday, suspending railway traffic, Geo television reported.

Police officials told Geo that explosive material planted along the track blew up a few minutes before the arrival of the Jaffar Express and Balochistan Express. The explosion badly damaged the track and railway officials had to stop trains coming from Sindh and Punjab. Railway officials summoned staff from Sukkur and Sibi to repair the track. daily times monitor

4 soldiers killed in suicide attack

PESHAWAR: A suicide car bomber attacked an army convoy on its way from Bannu to Miranshah in North Waziristan on Monday, killing four soldiers.

The attack comes seven days after a military strike against suspected militant hideouts in Zamazola, South Waziristan. Pro-Taliban militant leader Baitullah Mehsud had vowed to avenge the attack on Zamazola “with a suicide attack”.
“Today at about 1030 hours an administrative convoy moving from Bannu to Miranshah (the main town in North Waziristan) was attacked by a suicide bomber with an explosive-laden car near Khajuri (check-post). Four security forces personnel embraced shahadat while a few were injured including one who is in critical condition,” an ISPR statement said. …

AFP adds: Up to 20 soldiers were injured in the incident, officials said on condition of anonymity. Military spokesman Gen Sultan said nine soldiers were injured, some critically.

Rockets fired at Shakai post

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Militants fired rockets at a security post in Shakai, but nobody was injured, AP quoted an intelligence official as saying on Thursday.

According to the AP report, the attack took place on Wednesday in Shakai, South Waziristan. Militants fired 15 rockets at the post of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary, but all landed in nearby fields, said the intelligence official. He said troops retaliated by firing rifles and machine guns, but it was not known whether the assailants had suffered any casualties.

Staff Report adds: Separately in Khyber Agency, one man was killed and another wounded in a grenade attack in the Wazir Dand area.

Sher Muhammad was sitting with a watchman late on Wednesday when some unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade at them, killing Sher Muhammad and injuring watchman Gul Man, a resident of Jamrud. The Jamrud political administration has detained Gul Man, who was taken to Jamrud Civil Hospital, on suspicion.

HANGU: A car bomb killed one man and injured six others on Thursday amidst preparations for Muharram 10 – a day that witnessed carnage last year, said police. Two blasts rock Quetta

LAHORE: Two blasts rocked Quetta on Friday, Aaj Television reported. The channel quoted police officials as saying that miscreants fired two rockets from nearby hills that landed in the residential areas in Shahbaz Town and Jail Road. The first rocket hit a three-storied building in Shahbaz Town and damaged the building, while the second one also hit a building on Jail Road. No casualties were reported. daily times monitor

Police chief among 15 killed in Peshawar suicide blast

PESHAWAR: A suicide attack that was meant to target a Muharram procession near Qasim Ali Khan Mosque in the Dilgaran area of Qissa Khawani Bazaar killed 15 people and injured around 60, said Inspector General of NWFP Police Sharif Virk and NWFP Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam.

Among the dead people are six police officials – including Peshawar Police Chief Malik Saad, DSP Khan Raziq and Kabuli SHO Nawaz Khan – Union Council Nazims Mohammad Ali Safi and Mian Iftikhar, said City Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali.
Most of the injured people, who were taken to Lady Reading Hospital and two other hospitals of the city, were police officials who had been deployed in the area for the procession. Doctors said that 15 of the injured were in critical condition. Dr Muhammad Mukhtar of Lady Reading Hospital feared that the death toll might go up. …

Rockets fired at Levies check post in Salarzai

KHAR: Unidentified people fired rockets late on Saturday night at a Levies check post located in Salarzai, 10 kilometres from Khar in Bajaur Agency. After the rocket attack, the attackers used heavy weapons. No one was hurt in the attack, but it caused enormous damage to the check post. Pipeline bombed in Dera Bugti

LAHORE: Unidentified people blew up a gas pipeline in Dera Bugti, Geo television reported. The channel quoted their sources as saying that miscreants planted an explosive device near the gas pipeline from Zafar Colony to the purification plant. The explosive device went off and fire erupted in the 8-inch diameter gas pipeline, the channel reported. Officials reached the scene and suspended gas supply to the purification plant to repair the line, it added. daily times monitor

PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber killed two people, including a policeman, in Dera Ismail Khan on Monday, said police, while an imambargah in Bannu came under a rocket attack.

In the attack in Dera Ismail Khan, the suicide bomber denoted explosives strapped to his body at a checkpost when police stopped him from entering a Muharram procession near Liaqat Park, said police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Captain Hamad told Daily Times over the telephone that the suicide bomber, wearing a black shawl, blew himself up as policeman Abdul Halim was searching him.

He said that Naseer, a civilian working at a nearby petrol pump, was also killed, and seven other people, including two policemen, were injured. …

In Bannu, at least 12 people were injured when unidentified assailants fired a rocket at an imambargah. However, AP reported that two rockets were fired.
“The rocket, which fell in front of Hussainia Imambargah in Hussainabad Colony, injured 12 people,” Bannu District Police Officer Mazharul Haq told Daily Times. …

10 rockets fired in 3 incidents

QUETTA: Unidentified men fired 10 rockets at an airport and a Frontier Corps (FC) camp in three incidents on Monday.

The militants fired three rockets at an airport and another four at an FC camp in Panjgur district, 600 kilometres from Quetta. “The rockets missed their target, but caused partial damage to the airport building,” an official told Daily Times. In the attack on an FC camp, officials said that FC personnel returned fire in the same direction from where the rockets had been launched, adding that a special team had been formed to investigate the incident.

In the third incident, three rockets were fired at a security checkpoint in Bhambore, Kohlu district, but there were no casualties. staff report

5 killed in NWFP blast, ambush

MIRANSHAH/BARA: Suspected militants ambushed a van and killed two government officials and a tribal cop in North Waziristan on Thursday, said the political administration, while two people died in a blast in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Two Communication and Works Department officials and Khasadar Nekmatullah were on their way to Mir Ali when four gunmen in a vehicle with tinted windows fired at their van, killing all three immediately and injuring three others. AFP reported the government officials’ van was carrying the salaries of tribal police from Miranshah to North Waziristan. …
