This is just pathetically ridiculous!!! What was the point of them trials? Yet again Imran Farhat was stunning yet he neva gets picked coz is face doesnt fit. We will always b a poor side coz we select players not coz of wat they know but who they know> Faisal Athar, a 29 yr old wid a poorish domestic record and obviously not one for the future. If he was so good why was he not in the trials? Abdul Rauf had 1 bad game yet has an excellant domestc record and is the quickest bolwer in pak but he's quickly overlooked. This is truly disgusting. Pakistan is full of corrupted ppl from head to toe n im quite frankly sick of 'em!!!!
WHY THE HELL DID THEY BRING SHOAIB BACK??? PCB WANNA SPEND SOME MORE MONEY TO GET HIM FIT....
Yes thats a shocking news Shoaib should have been back but not for this tour as there will be scorching heat and well I just don't know why they dropped Inzi and yeass Wasim will also make a strong come back Inshallah.
WTF?? No Imran Farhat??!!
He got like a 100 and 70 in the trial matches.
Though I am against Shoaib's recall but I can see why he is being recalled. Pakistan is looking for experience and strike fast bowler, unfortunatly, with the exception of Sami, there is no striking and wicket taking bowler in the team. Putting a newbe like Rauf or Shabbir to open the bowling attack along Sami would be suicidal on subcontinental pitches against quality batting attacks of NZL and SL. So there might be a reason and plus domestic performance is never really a true reflexion of bowlers.
Honestly as long as I could remember, Shoaib has never been impressive in domestic level, even the first time he came into the national side was because of his speed but not his domestic form.
So its all about waiting and see who does what.
Who is Faisal Athar anyone know ANYTHING about him?
I've heard bits about Yasir hameed and Qaiser abbas. Shabbir Ahmad from what I recall isn't anything great. Dont know the names of any of the other players. Frankly it would've been better had they brought inzi and saeed back, but Wasim / Waqar dont have too much cricket left in them. Afridi and Mahmood dont have what it takes at this level, maybe Afridi will improve under Miandad's guidance but its doubtful.
I hope they dont push this young talent initiative too far. Its good to have new talent but its stupid to put forth a team which will not have any experience. I dont think any of these young bats average as well as inzi or saeed at the domestic level.
Aamer Sohail optimistic about available talent
The chairman of selectors Aamer Sohail Tuesday sounded optimistic about the future of Pakistan cricket on the basis of abundance of talent available in the country. In a statement, Aamer Sohail said a result of an extensive exercise carried out by holding two-day trials and a series of 10 practice matches at the Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA ground, the selectors have been able to identify 65-70 potential players for future national requirement. These were short listed from a total of over 150 players from all over the country who appeared in the trials and matches.
The chief selector was positive that his committee has been able to recognize at least three future replacements for every position in the Pakistan team. He was happy to note the abundance of talent and the variety available among the aspiring youngsters and felt that there was no shortage of talented players waiting in the wings.
“Our work has started and from hereon we shall work hard on the available talent to get Pakistan cricket back on track and bring the country to the required international level before long,” he said.
However, this task, he said, cannot be achieved overnight and will take some time. The chief selector pinned high hopes on the National Cricket Academy, which will get underway soon. He felt that the short listed players will be groomed at the Academy, according to the demand of Pakistan cricket. The emphasis will be on proper physical fitness, technically well-equipped and mentally focused-on cricket players, he added.
“Selectors would like to thank the PCB allowing for such an extensive exercise without any hesitation, especially because it required a lot of funding,” Aamer concluded.

Neither shoaib nor Inzaman should be included. How many matches did Inzamam play ? what was his performance considering the opposition and considering we regard him as one of the “best” Pakistan has produced ?
But most importantly he was not fit ? He retired hurt with an injury. I have nothing against him he is a good batsman but I think if he is not fit he should not be selected. It will clearly help him to recover physically and mentally, make him hungry for runs and it will also send a clear message to the youngster and to Inzamam himself that no one can take his position for granted. Thus when come back he will come back more determined and stronger.

Well i have been told that Faisal athar is a compact backfoot players as well as a front foot player. Thats a great sign coz almost every pakistani opener has been excellent with front foot play as a result of dead low-bounce wickets. If Faisal is one with equally good backfoot technique then we need not worry anymore about our opening problems anymore.
LAHORE: Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was a surprise inclusion in the list of 21 probables announced by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s national selection committee for a short training camp while several deserving players were shown the door at the end of trial match series here on Tuesday.
However, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the seasoned batsman, failed to find a place. Both Shoaib and Inzamam were sidelined alongwith six other senior players for their lacklustre performance in the recent World Cup in southern Africa.
The training camp gets under way at Gaddafi Stadium from Wednesday before the selectors pick a 15-member squad for the forthcoming triangular series in Sri Lanka, also involving New Zealand.
Originally, a list of 25 probables was sent to PCB Chairman, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, on Monday for final approval.
Even though Inzamam played only one trial match in which he scored 89 before retiring hurt he was unable to impress chief selector Aamir Sohail. In sharp contrast, Shoaib failed to produce any worthwhile performance in these matches. His return in two matches was just two wickets for 72 runs. Yet Aamir successfully campaigned for Shoaib to be included in the final list of 21 players.
"We want to retain the same batting line which delivered in the Sharjah Cup, therefore, we did not include Inzamam. The team needed a strike bowler in Sharjah Cup which forced the selectors to select Shoaib," was Aamir's flimsy explanation.
When reminded that Shoaib performed moderately in thetrial matches, Aamir said that he was only included in the probables of the camp and not in the team. Now it remains to be whether the controversial fast bowler, who also looked out of sorts in the recent NBP One-day Patron's Cup, succeeds in finding his name in the Colombo-bound squad.
Two other pace bowlers, Mohammad Zahid and Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, were not considered for the camp. Zahid's omission is debatable since the poor chap did not play a single match in the Sharjah Cup.
However, their exclusion now was because of poor showing in the trial matches. Zahid conceded 155 runs in three matches and claimed two wickets. Naveed in two matches gave away 91 runs for a solitary wicket.
Among the new faces in the list of probables are relatively unknown Mansoor Amjad and diminutive batsman Faisal Athar. Leg-spinner Mansoor Amjad, a 16 year-old from Sialkot was a member of Pakistan squad which took part in the Under-15 Asia Cup in UAE recently. Mansoor, who claimed just four wickets in three trial games, was preferred over Adil Nisar.
Adil must consider himself extremely unlucky to be overlooked. He captured eight wickets for 87 runs with his part-time slow left-armers besides scoring 130 runs in three matches.
Hyderabad's Faisal Athar made 117 in the last trial fixture on Tuesday but his name was pencilled in beforehand on the basis of his mediocre performance in three previous games in which he made 20, two and 31. , Test reject Qaiser Abbas must offer his gratitude to the selectors for including him in the final list despite making nine runs in one match.
Batsmen Farhan Adil and Yasir Hameed also performed moderately but they at least deserve to be named after consistent displays in domestic competitions.
Others to miss out despite performing well in the trial series were opening batsman Kashif Siddique (132 runs), all-rounder Babar Naeem (154 runs and 11 wickets), Test discard Imran Farhat (184 runs in three matches) and Naumanullah (144 runs in two games).
Another notable absentee is former Pakistan skipper Moin Khan.
Following probables will report in the camp: Taufiq Umar, Mohammad Hafeez, Faisal Athar, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Faisal Iqbal, Naved Latif, Misbah-ul-Haq, Farhan Adil, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Rashid Latif, Danish Kaneria, Qaiser Abbas, Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Mansoor Amjad and Jaffar Nazir.

Yeah well rauf's 25 yrs old and Shabbir Ahmed's 27. So if we dont select them now then it's neva. You can only do well to what's in front of you then as they hav done well in domestic cricket they shud b selected. The exclusion of I. Farhat is ridiculous. They know he'l perform n Faisal Iqbal hasn't got wat it takes at this level therefore Farhat will take his place n Miandad and co. wont b happy!!!

Don't think so, a much much much better player and slogger than Afridi.
They shudnt have dropped Imran Farhat cuz of his consistant great performance in the trial matches and also in domestic matches... He's a very good young player but on the other hand, we are having many opener players including Taufeeq Umar, Muhammed Hafeez, Saleem Elahi, Naved Latif and Faisal Iqbal....
But Shoaib Akhtar shudn b included in the side :(
Shoaib hasn't been included in the side, he's just been invited to the camp. Unless he can perform up to the required standard, no doubt he'll be out on his ear again.
I'm interested in seeing this Jaffar Nazir who seems to have a pretty good domestic record.
