Pakistan ready to host India

India and Pakistan ready to resume contact

International matches between India and Pakistan are likely to resume soon, with the relations between the governments of India and Pakistan having improved dramatically in the last fortnight. Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told the Associated Press, a news agency, that Atal Behari Vajpayee, India’s prime minister, had approved the resumption of cricketing ties. :k: An official announcement was expected within the next seven days.

Pakistan are due to tour India, as per the ICC calendar, in February 2004. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are insisting that India show its good faith by first playing in Pakistan.

Tauqir Zia, chief executive of the PCB, said: “We are planning to host India in February 2004 and we have approached the International Cricket Council in this regard.”

The Asia Cup, which has already been postponed twice, might also finally take place. Syed Ashraful Huq, the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) chief executive, said: “We are hoping to host the Asia Cup in the first week of April 2004. It may even be held in Pakistan, the original venue, instead of Sri Lanka … but it all depends on a lot of things.”

Huq added: “We will also try to organise an ice-breaking match in September this year – provided India allows its team to play against Pakistan.”

Vajpayee approved it? Whaoh! Cool then! I'll be looking forward for official statement made by Vajpayee and BCCI officials.

As far as I know, India doesn't have to play till Asia Cup in August, going to be held in Bangladesh whereas Pakistan will be touring England in June. That leaves month July for Indian Cricket Team to tour Pakistan.

Pakistan's stand is valid. Indian Cricket Team was due in Pakistan in April. Now, everything seems to be sorted out between Pakistan and India slowly and surely, India should visit Pakistan first; and of course by doing so, Pakistan will tour Indian next year in Feb and won't pulled out from Asia Cup either.

:)

Finally.

Great move by Indian govt.

As far as I know, Asia Cup which was suppose to be held in Pakistan was then later moved to Bangladesh but since India has agreed to play against Pakistan, the tournament might be held in Pakistan in April 2004 and India might tour Pakistan in Feburary 2004, so its all falling into place.

India-Pak cricket ties to resume

One of the direct beneficiaries of the recent thaw in Indo-Pak relations may very well be our cricket fans.

I always considered the whole issue kinda inane. While cricketers and majority of cricket fans in both countries want these to play (I presume), and also BCCI and PCB want to play, it was none other than the Indian Government who’d stop such cricketing ties. Then they went ahead and allowed them to play (and defeat) Pakistan in World Cup anyway. So the policy was patchy, and in any case, questionable.

Hopefully the situation will get better with time. I, for one, think that matches between Indian and Pakistani teams draw great enthusism and competition and are always a joy to watch.

You rock!!

btw teaser, where are you these days yara? Havent seen u online in a while...

:hehe:

I agree with Faisal, nothing brings the whole sub continent togeather than a rivalry game of cricket. It doesn't matter the amount of competiveness it brings between the 2 sides but at the end of the day everyone shares a common interest.
I hope Vajpayee comes to his senses and give the green light to cricket matches so we can see quality cricket.
Probably the biggest problem at this moment has to be that idiot Vikram Verma, the sports minister.
