Pakistan must step up and expand operations against the root of cancer/terrorism

I think this is extremly simplistic. There are no more buyers of this strategy because of the huge trust deficit between global power players and Pakistani power structures and deep suspicion in Western circles about Pakistan's institutional links to global jehad. Moreover, there are other stake-holders in the region and by no stretch of imagination can the other powers tolerate Pakistan with all its arsenal intact to carve a portion of Afghanistan out for itself.

Right now the demad from Pakistan is to curtail its regional ambitions vis-a-vis Afghanistan and India, cut down links with militant groups, democratize and liberalize the education system, and accept a regional order in which India plays a dominent role and Pakistan and Afghanistan benifit through trade and soft borders.
