Lapak, that is not possible…The Punjab-dominated Pakistan Army is so hooked to Zia-ul-Haq General Akhtar Abdu-Rahman dream and ambition of controlling the whole of Central Asia from Lahore and annexing Kashmir through Jehad that it is almost impossible that they de-link themselves from that policy even if that comes at the cost of Pakistan itself.
Right now it is on collision course with the rest of world. They didn’t take any action against Taleban in Swat until arm-twisted by US and issued a warning of grave repurcussion. Recently, General James Jones was sent by US to Rawalpindi with the warning that Al-Qaueda sanctuaries in Waziristan, Haqani network, and Queta Shura will not be tolerated. The generals of Lahore-Rawalpindi responded by pressuring the pro-West Zardari through Choudri Iftikhar. There are CIA leaks saying that Queta shura was shifted to Karachi to save it of drone attacks.
The lines are drawn now between Lahore-Rawalpindi and Washington-London-Paris. Let us see who in the end prevails. One good thing that has come out of this is that Pashtuns have started looking beyond Pakistan.
Maybe Pro-West Zardari should avoid putting his personal gains before the collective national interests of Pakistan, and there won’t be need for any arm-twisting?
As far as “prevailing of the ends” is concerned, please do revisit when US leaves Afghanistan and we’ll talk about who’s working for who.
