Not sure, but I don't think there is any example in the world where a federal-based state has one unit that comprises more than a majority of the overall population, as Punjab does in Pakistan's federation. Punjab represents 90 million (or 56%) of Pakistan's total 160 million population. But if Punjab is subdivided into three smaller units the largest province in the new setup would be 'Central Punjab' with a population of 60 million i.e. 37% of Pakistan's population, similar to Ontario province in Canada.
But then it might also give encouragement to Seraiki stupid nationalists, Hindko speakers would also demand something for their own benefit etc.. If it helps in anyway to administer, I am for it but if it doesn't there should not be any need to create new provinces for politicians' sake.
If they want, they can divide Sindh into 2 parts- One for Sindhis and call it Sindh and one for Urdu-speaking Mohajirs and call it urdustan or something- they can settle Bihari Muslims from Bangladesh there by shifting Sindhis from South to the new state up north. Similarily Balochistan can be divided into Pathan Balochistan or merged with NWFP and south baclohistan including gwadar for Balochs.
Multz,
You are one ugly Punjabi racist. In fact it is Punjab which is to be divided. Small provinces do not need any division. Believe in live and let live...

No conspiracy against Punjabis will be tolerated.. I guess you’re Indian thats why you aren’t aware of the famous Punjabi anger. Other provinces are facing resistance and struggle from other ethnicities- we, punjabis are all united.. As I said before- any effort to divide the land of waris shah and bulley shah will be met with stiff resistance- I am just telling ya and others..
US has 50 states and is united so why cry when Pakistan can be divided administratively into 10 (or even more) parts. Off course the federal government and military must be united.
Seems a great decision if its true.
^Dino, dividing is an advantage… so better edit your post quickly…otherwise you’ll end up suggesting something *GOOD *for punjab…
Seriously, people who can not have respect for any one province dont deserve to have a say as a PAKISTANI. We want unity, not just balochi. On with the divisions.
This is a good idea and has been floated around for a while. The purpose is to address the concern of the smaller provinces that they are being dominated by one large province.
But, is the news true? Why would we hear it from Radio Tehran?
yes. So don't try to make 50 states of Pakistan......!!:)
I think there is a serious misconception among people that dividing a country into administrative parts means literally dividing the country by geographic lines. We know is has never been the case in the history of the world.
Perhaps we can discuss the pros and cons of such a decision.
I say the benefit is that people in a smaller administrative area have better control on its affair including TAX collection, keeping it clean or managing health related issues by building more hospitals etc..........and EVENTUALLY benefit larger central government by relying LESS on central government.
At present Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan have 66% of the seats in the Senate (Punjab has 22%), but if left as they are, and only Punjab is split into three smaller units, then that share would go down by a third to 44%. It makes adiminstrative sense to split all the existing provinces up, and it maintains parity between them.
its not just the size of the place that factors in such discussions but also the population that lives there. when u think in terms of population its a diff scenario.
HYDERABAD, May 24: The chairman of Sindh Taraqi Passand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has condemned a proposal for dividing Sindh into three provinces and warned that any such move will have disastrous consequences. In a statement faxed to Dawn on Tuesday, he said that it was an agenda of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s chief, Altaf Hussain, and the federal government to deprive Sindhis of their right to autonomy. Sindh had a separate identity and thousands of years of history and culture, he said, adding the province had joined Pakistan on the guarantees of autonomy, sovereignty and ownership of its own resources as enshrined in the 1940 resolution. He said that nobody had the right to tamper with the demography of Sindh, and lashed MQM leaders for supporting the construction of big dams.
