The mela was the best ever. An estimated 10K+ people showed up. All credit to PSA USC and alumni for putting together a well co-ordinated event. At about midnight there was as huge fireworks display that seemed like it wasnt gonna end. The crowd cheered loud when the green colored fireworks went up in the air. My guess is that the fireworks display must have cost the PSA at least $10,000. I havent seen a better fireworks show even for 4th of July.
Sukhbir came after fireworks at about midnight and performed for almost 2 hours. He made sure he let the crowd know that his favorite city was Lahore. Sang all his hit songs carrying Pak flag. World class dhol master, Mitch Hyare was also there along side Sukhbir. The crowd was mesmerised. Sorry no pics, i was too busy boogeying to the dhol blast. We got back home past 2 AM.

The mela was held inside USC campus, thus no chance of getting mugged and no drive-by shooting inside campus 
i went and sukhbir was the best ever, he really knows how the handle a huge crowd!!!!! i wish shehzad roy had shown up to represent pakistan though =/ but overall it was lots of fun to dance and stuff.
USC is no stranger to big names and big events. 2 yrs ago Junoon performed at USC on their US tour. At the time the PSA as it was known help support that. Ever since then, it's been known as psX because of it's revolutionary style of event for the public, i.e. the largest intercollegiate Eid Banquet. Selling out the last 3 years from 300 to 500 to 600.
5abi was right on the fireworks....it did cost $10,000. And you know what? 20% didn't go because of a malfunction...and you thought that was it? They fixed the malfunction and wanted to re-launch during Sukhbir.
Unfortunately, South Asian Festival of Los Angeles (SAFLA) took a major hit in order to make this hugest mela in the U.S. Security lost count after 22,000. Sukhbir never has performed for this a many people in the US ever.
So, with people talking about next year, should know that SAFLA might not be able to pull a mela like this again...becuase of the loss and lack of support from the Pakistani community.

ya i heard that this year it could not be held in fullerton because fullerton wanted 40,000 dollars because in the previous years it was left really dirty and they wanted money for all that mess this year or else they could not have it on their campus again. so this year i guess safla funded it? and the guy also said they went into a huge deficit but they wanted to make it huge for some reason. now in order to make it big event next year they need to have more money adding up till then.

I was there! My only complaints were that Sukhbir started so late and by that time they had run out of food and I was starving so I took off after maybe his 4th song! He's very cool though!
I think they did a great job! It's a lot of work trying to set up a big event like that and sadly
so many people are so ungrateful and just like to complain about everything in this world!? They did not even charge any admission!? ? Some of my friends were actually thinking of not going if they did!! You know that's just sad!!

Nefy are you with PSA USC? I would suggest putting an ad in local Paki newspapers like Pakistan Link asking people to donate if they want to see an event like this in future for FREE.

This was the best event I saw at USC after the Vital Signs first ever tour of US, that was back in early 90s.
I do know for a fact that imran prefers to call it psX, cuz psA is dead. Yes yes....it's a ll a name thing...but he is anal about that...i dont know why....something to do with the old and new coming together blah blah...and because all of the huge stuff they are doing.
Papers like Paki Link are useless...from experience....they just are. Time for a change.
