Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

*Can someone please ban this lovyou idiot. He is ruining this thread.

Cricketfan, I completely agree with you on the difference between Inzi and Imran's captaincy, but the problem here is, Inzi won't have the bowlers the calibre of which Imran had if Asif and Shoaib are not included. Our backup is incompetent.*

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

If that was the case then Hussey should have defended 330+ scores, since with a total of over 300 runs and average bowling attack could make life hard for opponents.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

why are our backups so bad anyway? time was when we could produce fast bowlers at will

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

I agree with you to certain degree, Our backup bowlers are very diffident in their achievements they have accomplished however, when the backup bowlers do perform it is ephemeral because of the lack of praise and recognition from the captain and coach. They should act more of a father figure

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

There is no such thing as flawless captaincy, if that was the case than Imran Khan should have won 2 or 3 World Cups instead of one and Wasim Akram at least 2 instead of ’99 final. Thing is captain’s main job is to keep the team as a unit despite the controversy or strong opponent. If we look at our team, unity and self belief is not the problem, it is only the scandals and injuries that have kept us down and down was slipping to 4th position on last day of one day before world cup. Had we have our all players we wouldn’t be in those situations, we would not have lost test series against England and South Africa.

Common denominator between Steve Waugh, Arjuna Ranatuga and Imran is that they were all playing their last world cup when they won and till the end they made their team belief that they are still in the game. This world cup is going to be about it than anything else, if Inzi can make those players belief that no matter what happened in last 6-8 months, we are still in it and in it to win…we will go really deep in the tournament and that should alone certify him as a legitimate leader.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

The McGrath phenomenon. Every trundler is considered a line and length bowler in the mould of McGrath, where that is simply not the case.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

Inzi belief.

Inzamam positive amid uncertainty

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq says he is “not thinking negatively” as doubts about Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif’s involvement in the World Cup remain.
The premier pace pair have not yet taken a drugs test - which the Pakistan Cricket Board says they must pass before flying to the Caribbean.
Shoaib (knee and hamstring) and Asif (elbow) are also nursing injuries.
Inzamam said: “I hope they overcome their injuries and that reports of their tests also come in our favour.”
Shahid Afridi and the skipper himself are both awaiting the results of their own drugs tests.
All 11 results of the 15-man squad that have been returned have come back negative, Afridi and Inzamam’s being conducted at a later date.
Shoaib and Asif had doping bans controversially lifted in December and face life bans if they test positive again.

They have until the end of February to submit themselves for a further test. Some experts have warned they could still have banned substances in their system.
The two fast bowlers produced positive tests for nandrolone in September, but their bans were lifted on appeal when it was accepted they had taken the drug unwittingly.
The World Anti-Doping Agency is in turn contesting that appeal result in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Inzamam said Australia were still the team to beat in the Caribbean despite their recent slump in form. “Australia may have lost a few matches but for me they still are the World Cup favourites,” he told reporters after a training session in Lahore. “They have been winning for the last 10 years or so and they are a very consistent side but their recent defeats have given more chances to other teams.”

Changes in Pakistan WC squad likely
http://www.geosuper.tv/news_detail.asp?id=3137
LAHORE: An important meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s selection committee will be held in Lahore on February 27 to discuss possibilities of any sort of changes in the Pakistan squad for the World Cup.

According to the sources of PCB’s selection committee, the meeting will discuss the fitness of Umar Gul and availability of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, and the ICC would be informed on replacement.

The ICC has set deadline of March 2 for any sort of changes in the squads.
Chairman of the PCB’s selection committee, Wasim Bari, said that any sort of changes in the team would be made after discussing with captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Bob Woolmer.

He said that Umar Gul’s fitness has improved substantially, and Shoaib and Asif are the part of the squad.

He said that if PCB requests for a replacement than the name of any other bowler would be considered.

On the other side, fast bowler Mohammad Sami and all-rounder Azhar Mahmood have been green signalled to be ready for joining the World Cup squad.

Well we are going to find out by 27 February if Shoaib and Asif will be going to the WC.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

Poori duniya ka chakkar laga ke waapis Malcolm Sami ki taraf. Allah khair.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

If we HAVE to get a replacement bowler, why Mohd. Sami. Pick ANY other good bowler from domestic cricket. No bowler could do worse than Sami, so why not gamble on some other option?

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

Khan sahib ka order hai, Mohd Sami is DA bowler bus :snooty:

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

If Bari consult Inzi he will rather go for alrounder in Azhar, Sami also for his batting skills, and I will nto be surprise on if Inzi ask for Arshad Khan as a replacement for Akhtar.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

hmmm
Symonds is the best ODI player in Aus team. Without him Ponting lost 3 consecutive games to England. Hussey on the other hand played with a team that was still without Symonds and missed many other players as well.

anyways the point was Even the best leader cannot lead a weak side to success but good leadership can increase the performance of a quality side by some margin. So without Symonds Hussey lost 3 games to NZ and Ponting lost 3 games to Eng. (On ICC rankings NZ was a better ODI team than Eng)

As for the successful 300+ run-chases, it had nothing to do with Aus, Ponting or Hussey, but for NZ "the Gladiator" (Mcmillan) was back. :)

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15 ( Asif, Aktar, Gull, Danish in Team)

oh what other domestic options are available for use instead of Sami.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

In this world cup…I think…our spinners will take major chunk of wickets…Kaneria, Afridi, Hafeez & Malik…Razzaq & Iftikhar could lead the pace department…voilá… :k:

We should have a more powerful batting lineup and a long one…to compensate the missing pacers…

Considering the above-mentioned assupmtions…team could be composed of the followings:

  1. Shahid Afridi
  2. Imran Nazir
  3. Younis Khan
  4. Muhammad Yousuf
  5. Inzamam-ul-Haq
  6. Muhammad Hafeez
  7. Shoaib Malik
  8. Abdul Razzaq
  9. Danish Kaneria
  10. Iftikhar Anjum
  11. Azhar Mehmood

PS: I haven’t been bothered by the order of play…bingo…

PS1: Pakistan…at this time…should not take stupid risks of ½ fit and ½ doped pacers…things could go worse only… :jhanda:

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

Inzi for Keeper in this side?

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

^ no the stumps will have gloves on them.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

I am not sure if I would play both Rana and Kaneria in the same team. Rana we all know can go for plenty. Kaneria was taken to the cleaners by Lara in one of the tests. That said I know we don't have that many options available esp. if both Asif and Actor don't make it by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Re: Pakistan announce World Cup 15

Let Younis Khan keep the wicket in this mega event... :)
