**kumseykum saudi’s hv been qualifying for the past few WC’s… **
khair…i think pak can qualify for the WC…it’s not like there is no talent…tht is not possible…among the millions pf ppl living in pak…i think it should not be hard to find 12 players who r good … it’s just a matter of arranging priorities , proper training , finance ,support & belief in oneself…
**EMM personally i think saudi’s r not so good…'cause their training is nothing as compared to european players…they get tired too fast on the field… they can’t stop eating kabsa’a & shawarma’s & all those unhealthy stuff & stay fit for the match… **
You guys don't understand. You can't just take a bunch of random people from Lyari and qualify for the World Cup. To even remotly believe such a thing is a slap in the face for the soccer infrastrutuce in countries throughout the world. That is grossly undervaluing the amount of work that goes into qualifying for the World Cup. You need to have a grass root system in place, which Pakistan does not posses. You need to have a real, competitive proffesional league, which, once again, Pakistan does not posses. Countries like Togo and what not made it to the world cup mostly because of the fact that there is a quota for teams from Africa but more importantly, the amount of passion and talent that is present there can not be matched by Pakistan. It's definitely a fact that Africans are superior atheletes. There is talent is Pakistan, no doubt, but to believe that we will be able to qualify for the next World Cup by just picking up some random guys off the coast of Karachi is very dilliuisional. If the government is really serious about this, they need to establish a proper infrastruture from the bottom up and fund it generously. If the government is really determined, at best, it would still take us atleast 16 more years to reap the benefits.
yes....u r quite true ...tht u can't just pick up random ppl to play....tht is not wht we r suggesting either.......... but as i said ......it's a matter of arranging priorities above everything else.........once the govt thinks football is as imp or more imp for the country as compared to cricket.......then it's just a matter of proper training , funding , support & belief ......... we r only talking abt qualifying to the WC.....not actually winning the cup........ some countries r slow in progress as compared to others........for instance saudi's hv been qualifying for the past few WC's...but they weren't even able to go to the second round......whereas ukraine qualified for the 1st time(i guess) ...& it went to the 2nd round.........
Thats what I'm saying. Qualifying for the World Cup is extremely hard as it is. Not sure what point you are trying to make by comparing Ukraine to Saudi Arabia but Ukraine is a European country, which means it has far greater competition than Saudi Arabia, which is an Asian country. So while Saudi Arabia can qualify easily by beating vastly inferior competition in fellow Asian countries, Ukraine has to go through European countries, which I'm sure you know is definitenly a tall order. Even 4 years ago, if you were to match Saudi with Ukraine, I'm sure they would have won eventhough they were not in the WC whereas Saudi was. All I'm saying is that you guys think qualifying for the World Cup is child's play when in fact, it definitely isn't. Qualifying for the World Cup is an acheivement in itself since the path to it is extremely hard.
yea.......i sort of see ur point......abt qualifying being an acheivement in itself......... & it was stupid to compare saudi arabia to ukraine........smack.......... but i still think if the govt rearranges its priorities...pak can reach the WC......... but tht is not going to happen anyways..........pak is tooo corrupt.........
I don't see Pakistan playing bad after getting some good training. Aren't we so good in Cricket. Also we had been very competitive in Hockey and Squash.
Football is hard but we have reasonable number of people interested there who would love for themselves or their children to play good.
the sports we take part in are not those that have globa following, whether you are talking about cricket or hockey. had these sports had the same following that football does, we would probably not be where we are, raw talent only takes you so far, its grassroots level support training and organization chaneled into a well developed and defined program at national level that would be needed.
Sir, If you talk about global following then no sport comes close to football. you take football as an exception then talk about all other games. Hockey and Squash are internation sports like tennis and boxing ...
For football, I think qualifying for Worldcup is not such a big deal if the sports bodies pay attention and provide resources and make sure they are spent wisely. Their is too much raw talent in pakistan
I belive one sport which is very suitable for pakistani climate is boxing, hope we see some more good results in future
*Sir, If you talk about global following then no sport comes close to football. *
indeed, and we are talking football here, the most global sport, meaning many mor countries playing it and many with a much richer heritage for the sport, which means tough road for countries like Pakistan.
you take football as an exception then talk about all other games. Hockey and Squash are internation sports like tennis and boxing ...
Indeed they are, but the number of countries playing hockey is much less than that of football, and then most countries there do not have a tradition richer than Pakistan or comparative. Even then er struggle. If we take squash as an example, we re nowhere close to where we used to be during jehangir khan or jansher khan era, look up the stats.

This is assuming that the countries e have to qualify against are sitting on their hands, which they are not, so ts not so simple or so easy, it will take planning, it will take grassroots level development and it will take time.
** Their is too much raw talent in pakistan **
1- this is assuming that other countries dont hve the 'raw talent'
2- assuming that our 'raw talent' can function well together as a team compared to a well coordinated and trained team.
The point is not to be pessimistic but to be a realist and thus try and allocate resources, plan proprly, have a realistic time horizon in mind and be committed to it.
