Program Events for Entire Family

This year marks the 60th Independence Day for Pakistan. Committed to the Pakistani American community, “United for Pakistan Independence Day 2007” will be holding the 60th Pakistan Independence day celebrations on Saturday, August 11th, 2007. The event will be held at the Exposition Park in Los Angeles.

The highlight of this year’s event would be a live concert performance by renowned singers Ali Haider, Najam Sheraz Alamgir, and Several Local Artists. Vendors including several restaurants will serve delicious Halal and Vegetarian food and over fifty businesses plan to showcase their merchandise and services to the public. In addition, a children area will feature clown, face painting, jumpers, and helium filled balloons…

Program will start at 3pm and ceremonies will include National Anthem, salute from the Color Guard, silent marine drill and speeches from dignitaries. Consul General of Pakistan, Mayor Antonio, Sheriff from Los Angeles, Orange, and Kern County, and other state officials will be addressing the crowd. There will also be a performance by renowned Hollywood artist Nancy Cartwright (Voice of Bart Simpson)

We hope that you will be able join us and be part of the Independence Day program.

Re: Pak Day LA 2007

Actually, no more than 20,000. There are less than 200,000 Pakistanis total in all of the US. Also, once again, I find it absolutely retarded and fazool that there will be two indpendence day celebrations (at the exact same location, one day apart--what a waste!) It would have been nice to see some unity. They could've pooled their resources to do it in the coliseum like they did a few years back.

Still, I'm looking forward to the Saturday mela...

Re: Pak Day LA 2007

I find it Ironic.

Faith, UNITY, discipline.

Sounds familiar to you and me. Not to the organizers apparently.

Re: Pak Day LA 2007

The best way to celebrate 14th august would be to spend the day making duas for the country be it at home or mosque, pray for the long and better life of Pakistan instead of doing all the forbidden stuff like singing and dancing, mixing of men and women.

UFPID Arranges Historic Independence Day Celebrations
**
Los Angeles, CA: **The 60th Pakistan Independence Day celebrations at the Los Angeles Exhibition Park on August 11 furnished a truly soul-lifting spectacle. The surging crowd continued to multiply by the minute. The heavy traffic choked the nearby Kings Blvd as spirited Pakistanis sped to the park, which caused the parking lots to overflow, and forced the organizers to permit parking on nearby lawns.

Each individual in the **crowd , which according to some estimates exceeded 18,000**, appeared visibly charged, yet no rowdy behavior was in evidence. Instead, a rare patriotic fervor marked the proceedings.

The event generated a great deal of jollity and disciplined merriment. There were vivid manifestations of the spirit of Unity, Faith and Discipline, thanks to the splendid arrangements made by the organizers - United for Pakistan Independence Day (UFPID). Most members of the community described the celebrations as “historic” and the “best” organized in the history of Los Angeles. Accolades for UFPID followed, and deservedly so.

Re: Pak Day LA 2007

Wow! 5abi the pics are fab! Thanks for sharing...looks like the entire event was a roaring success...well done!

Plus, I love the fact there appears to have been no notable trouble...even local melas here attract morons looking for a fight...so an event estimated at having up approx 18k attendees with little or no trouble is to be applauded!!

:D

Re: Pak Day LA 2007

Thanks and yes we are proud of the fact that everything went smoothly. Indian community also celebrated their 60th independence day mela too, at some local school, with ex miss india celina jaitley but the event was marred by some gang /thug related shooting.
