Pacifiers and Bottles

hmmm never heard of that before…but it does effect their teeth.

What my peds told me is that using a pacifier for the first few months actually helps develop their sucking habit and strengthen their mouth muscles, as well as guard them against SIDS. But eventually when their respiratory systems are more functional, it is best to wean them off quickly. My kids used a pacifier for the first 3-4 months only and let go by themselves. I din’t really do much except not offer it to them when they were in need.

I have never heard of it affecting hearing though.

They have new orthodontic pacifiers designed by dentists so that the babies teeth are not affected.

Re: Pacifiers and Bottles

my lil one loves his pacifier way to much to let go of it.. i tried but no luck.. iam gonna give him a few more months then jus gonna cut the top off the pacifier off.. and i got him a sippy cup but he jus turns it over and spills milk all over the floor.. so iam giving him another year or so with his bottle

lol, same here, i better prepare hubby first. Ok this weekend the bottle is going into the trash can!

thanks for the tips

Re: Pacifiers and Bottles

Dont listen to anyone except your instincts and what your child prefers.

With my older one i made the mistake of reading books, listening to unwanted advice from left right and center, made all mistakes that I shouldnt have and felt like the most incompetent parent.

With the younger one, i paid attention to what my intincts told me to do and did what was comfortable for me rather then proving to aunties, doctors and every other god damn person who thought they were expert on child raising.

Result was I enjoyed being a parent second time more than the first time.

Choti had the pacifier in her mouth the minute she could take it and didnt let go of it till she was 3. Did it bother me? No. She let go of it when she wanted to.

My oldest one drank from a bottle right before she started school. Thats what she wanted, thats what she got.

The youngest one refused the bottle at 2 and wanted to eat at the table.

Does it really make you a bad parent if your kid still wants to drink from the bottle after 1 years old?? Or would you rather they atleast drink milk and not go through spitting and spilling it all out from a cup.

Every kid has their own pace and preference. Dont snatch that from them. Let them have a personality.

I’d rather have fond memories of good times than tantrums and tears and frustration.

We still talk bout how Choti would take her pacifier out of her mouth and prop it somewhere while she was busy with a toy, then forget all bout it till bed time. We’d all go looking for it till we got smart and bought 5 spare ones. The lost one always turned up somewhere the next day. It used to be so much fun. I still have her last one sitting in the kitchen cupboard and she looks at it in amusement sometimes.

They grow up so quickly :frowning:

These days I have to worry bout waxing, boys, kisses and sex talk :hinna:

Re: Pacifiers and Bottles

my one year old boy never ever used pacifier

n he prefers to drink with a glass rather than a bottle

Re: Pacifiers and Bottles

adr. thanks for the alternative tips. i wish it was so easy, unfortunately she is destroying her teeths by drinking milk during nights. :-/
i set myself a date, she can drink till she is 3 then we have to do it by the cup. but will try this weekend if she is comfortable, if not then will let it be.

Oud daughter never took pacifier and our doctor strictly forbade us from using bottle. so we bought a cup and she drinks ' cup doodh' since then :)

My daughter in now 27 months old, when she was 22 months old my doc said that u should replace bottle with a sippy cup, first two nights are hectic she cried for bottle but I told her u have to take milk in a sippy cup so now she is set with sippy and I remove pacifier in age of 18 months.
