Re: Organ donation - revisited
The last time organ donation was discussed in the general section, a quick thread count on the same topic revealed 14… which makes this the 15th thread on the same topic.
Truth be told, we all approach the subject differently and after getting to hear opposing views, I’m content with the realization that there’s no single right answer to this debate.
For me personally, this was really a non-issue for as long as I was first asked. I was 17 when I signed up to be a donor (during renewal of my health card) and at the time, I didn’t even bother to check with my elders or consult the scholarly discourse on this. In my gut I felt right to become a donor and I did. The only thing I was uncomfortable with was opting in as a donor for scientific research and so I restrained from opting in for that.
After doing a little more research into this, I’ve found this answer which makes a whole lot of sense to me - I’ve seen this referenced in a few places…
Three guidelines for organ donation (i.e. ALL three conditions need to be satisfied simultaneously):
- As long as you’re NOT harming yourself through donation,
- as long as you’re NOT doing it for monetary gains, and
- as long as it is saving someone’s life.
Like I said… this makes a whole lot of sense to me! :k:
