Re: Oppression of Minorities in UAE [split: Bahrains treatment of shias]
Majority of the girls there were uneducated poor women on 'domestic workers' (housemaids) visa whose sponsors had got them arrested for one or the other reason. There were only these 7 girls who were highly educated stuck there for no crime but kept in jail with those housemaids. Many of those housemaids who were able to communicate with these girls told them their stories which also proved they were in jail for no crime of their own but their sponsors'. 300 girls in one tiny, stinky room with one bathroom with broken wash basin and drains. They had to sleep in the passage or one girl over the other because there was no space for so many girls in that room. Two of these girls were from Lebanon so they were able to somehow get the attention of those harsh women jailers some of the times (because they could speak arabic). But almost every time you would call them, they would only scream, "YALLAH YALLAH GO GO". They requested them to shift them to some other cell but they said there was no other place.
She saw atleast two cases where two different girls needed female sanitary napkins but they had to stay without that for two days because either they wouldnt even let them speak for their need only screaming, "YALLAH YALLAH, GO GO", or wont understand what they were saying, or wouldnt care. Unhygienic, bad food. This friend was all bones when she returned. A nightmare in a nightmare... atleast for those 7 girls.
This friend tried to tell them at every chance she could get that she had some funds in her bank she needed to take before being deported but she only got, "YALLAH YALLAH GO GO" as an answer. She came to know 2 days before she was flying. She again tried to tell them that she needs to go to the bank, at that time, the woman jailer said, "Why you didnt tell us before? Now there is no time." She said she had been telling them since the first day but nobody paid attantion. The woman jailer said, "Now you cannot do anything. You will have to leave here whatever you had."
There were about 10 african girls working in a female salon were arrested because their sponsor and employer (a local woman) had failed to make some sort of cards for each of them working there. One of those african girls told my friend that one card costed 1000 dirhams each so the sponsor was saving 10,000 dhs. Although, she was making billions from these girls who used to make over international models for modelling shows / cat walks at burj al arab apart from the usual salon services. Not that they were being paid fancy compensations for their full time jobs. Apart from that, they used to work over time without being paid for it. Their employer was also arrested along with these girls but was released after paying bribe. Whereas these girls were stuck there for months with no hope to be released.
