No, opposites kill each other . History is full of violence against opposite, race , religion, culture, gender etc.
If you mean male female attraction , then they attract each other only if they share some common interests. If they do not have any common interest ( opposite personality) then there is no attraction.

They were created for companionship not to complement or complete each other.
They both have similar ( not identical) physical structures and psychological profiles so they complement and complete each other in which respect ?
If men had hands and women had feet only or men had no brains( Yes some do not ) and women had brains then we could say they complement and complete each other.
If you are talking about family structure it is a separate subject.

what i am asking is that we often hear the term "opposites attract " …what i wanna knoe is how far that term really translates in to reality …
