Folks, give it a break.. this is C&A forum, not Cafe. Someone made an off topic comment, and the whole thread seems to have gone in a tangent. We don't always have to have the last word to prove we are smarter than the other person.

Lets get back to the opportunity cost.

Depends on where you live.

USA is full of opportunities. The market is slow because of 9-11 and corporate corruption. It could recover only if Bush is sincere in cracking down criminals.

As for the economic condition of USA goes, it looks fine.

So what opportunity cost are you willing to forgoe? What % drop in salary would be acceptable to you?

I am not sure what you mean by opportunity costs. My understanding is that opporunity costs are those costs incurred while forgoing investment in a particular endevour for another. Going for your MBA for example. The loans plus the foregone revenue from your job=opportunity costs.

Isn't diminishing returns a better economic postulate here?

Minimum Threshold=Current expenses+inflation.

the other factors are ofcourse savings and duration.

Opportunity cost in the sense that you would rather sit at home and do nothing then go to work for that pay :).

And what is this level and how it compares to you.

Your definition of the Opportunity cost is correct we were just thinking of its application in different places.

Re: Opportunity Cost

6???

no way!

Fatama
some people have the option of choice some dont. it depends on individual preferences. so how much is a minimum for you?

the minimum on our campus is 8.25 i think.

6 is too low, its unfair to the student i think!

Unfair...they should be happy that they have a job at all.

I think the minimium salary depends on the nature of the job, the skills the person brings along and the output coming from the student. Those students who have certain skills otherthan the fact that they are studing a subject, can earn good enough during education years, whereas those students who do not participate in activities other than taking courses and passing exams should be happy with whatever they recieve.
