I don't want to be a fearmonger, because most C-sections do go perfectly normally.
However, my SIL was one of the unlucky people who had a bad reaction to the anasthesia as Alvena mentioned. Her heart actually stopped and she was technically 'dead' for several minutes while the surgical team tried to revive her. Thank God she came out of it OK.
