Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
^actually some PM’s like Meraj Khalid used to go economy on commercial flights Dailytimes
He also returned the Boeing reserved for Prime Ministers to PIA and started to travel economy in a scheduled flight. It was during his tenure that VIP lounges were done away with and he himself always traveled through the normal economy class lounge. The interesting thing is that this was not a politician playing to the galleries but a genuinely simple man who never understood the fascination with luxury.
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
British Airways has 233 planes. PIA has 44 planes and serves a country with a much larger population than British Airways does.
It’s therefore much easier to find a spare BA plane for the British PM to charter than finding a spare PIA plane.
In addition, the RAF also operates planes for VVIP travel, just like the PAF. Number 32 Squadron based at Northolt Airfield is reserved for VVIP transportation duties. It has 11 VVIP transportation aircraft, unlike the PAF which only has 2.
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
what are you guys moaning about? You still want them travelling on unreliable old planes???? Its an upgrade, because the planes have gone past their useful lives. Plus there are security issues like someone mentioned, so commercial flights arent an option.
Some people would just find any excuse to badmouth the government. Your initial post proves it. You made it sound like its soooo bad... even I thought, hay this is wrong.. why do people soo conveniently forget to look at the whole pisture and the complete scenario???
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
Yeap those were the good days when Kommie lefties run amuck in the country. He may have saved few bucks on the seat, but in the process wrecked Nation’s schools, banks, and factories. Dulai camp was the norm, and opposition was killed as if there is no end. The black plague of kommies simply brought the national economy to its knees.
I see that our leftie intellectuals still remember those red-rose days. No wonder Pakistani people have rejected them ever since.
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
The only problem with that logic is that Blair is an international statesman who flies around a lot more than Aziz does, and PIA always provides planes if PM or President wants them…they make them available. Mush always causes delays and chaos when he comes to Karachi so it can’t be said he cares about inconveniencing people
As the article i posted mentioned,RAF planes are primarily for the royal family, and are used by the PM or ministers occasionally-this is not the reason they are purchased. In addition these planes are decades old, yet they are not being replaced, yet Pak PM wants to live better than the Queen of England!
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
Dear Zakk, You want to focus on few months of Meraj in 96, while I was talking about his long association with ZAB’s leftie Commie policies, and PPP’s first monstrous government.
Selective reading by leftie intellectuals?
For your information, we are OK with rich and flashy but honest people like Mohammad Ali Jinnah who would make the country. We are OK with anyone who may get his pin-striped suits from London and drive a BMW.
However it is not OK to join a party who nationalized every important institution and in the process destroyed the country.
Re: Only in Pakistan: Pm to buy new planes for foriegn trips
Dear Zakk, It is about being** “Penny-wise, Pound-foolish”.**
While we admire lefties for saving a few bucks on airline, we tend to forget the utter destruction of economy at their hands. Bhattto Mattoo, and his ilk including Miraj Khalid, destroyed the economy and brought Pakistan from a burgeoning forward looking country down to a basket case.
The industry and banks were “vandalized” using the term “nationalized”. Our schools and Colleges went down the drain as well. In the end, according to you, we ought to remember a full Rs. 100 saved by traveling economy class. Wow. This is pure high bred logic.
