One of the 5 most wanted in US turns up in Pak

Ohipguy said..

*Apparently the forger he used was busted, and this guy is not some saint. *

yep, no saint, but he sure is not in US is he? a tax evader is not a saint either but that does not make him into adolf hitler.

Point being, maybe there is an idetity theft or maybe FBI just screwed up. I dont care either way as long as they fix it and are looking for the right people if the people indeed are security threats.

But the US detractors are quick to blame the FBI Fraudz. The guy already admitted to trying to get a fake visa to go to the UK. Whether he is on the list on not...something smells and it's not the FBI.

As far as his tax evasion or terrorism connection. I could care less..as long we catch people like him and find the outfits in Pakistan suppying the fake travel papers

What surprises me is that some people are still willing to fork out their money to get forged visas/passports etc to travel abroad.

I mean, forged documents are already quite risky stuff, but in the heightened security environment after 9/11, to try that kinda stuff is completely idiotic. Even if you just wanna travel to US/Europe to better your life, chances are if u get caught you will be slapped with loads of terrorism charges, which will be hard to beat if you are really on false documents.

Alot of people sell their pakistani passport up in western countries to get couple thousand dollars with landed immigrant papers attached! wouldnt be surprised, if more pictures like of that guy above, get shown on wanted list of FBI LIST!

sure FBI does not smell, but there job is to figure out what smells. I had posted way back on the issue of identity theft in Pakistan in the 80s for drug smuggling, this reeks of the same.

There is tons of illegal stuff that goes on, but thats not terrorism. A dude getting a fake visa to get out to another country to make a better living is a different issue and more of an immigration control matter. Terrorism is another.

Fake travel documents are made the world over, and have been providing these type of services since before al qaeda existed. finding the outfits providing these services and shutting them down is a good step, but there has to be something better to stop terrorists. Technology exists that recognizes facial features of wanted criminals by using cameras, why cant the same be done to match people's faces with pictures on their passports.

If tomorrow OBL travels on a passport in your name thats one thing, but with your picture in it as well? either 2 are spitting images of one another or someone somewhere did nto do their job properly.

Fraudiya: Fake travel documents are used by drug runners, terrorists and those who are looking for a better life, fine! The economic refugees should think twice before using such methods. FBI is doing it's job by looking at the medium used by terrorists. If some of them smell..what's the hubbub...bub?

the hubbub..bub is that FBI needs to be doing this job..but better.

No..the FBI is doing it's job just fine. They need to get all of these clowns. Whether it be for terrorism, gun running, or free loading...What;s good is this brought the spotlight on the forgerers and now it's up to the Paki gov't to do something about them. wouldn't you think so????

FBI posting the wrong picture is NOT doing its job just right and that is the reason they have backed off. That is also the reason that they are inquiring about how dependable their informants are. So I suppose that they too realize that they need to fix the way theyas re handling this.

as far as forgery goes. I agree that needs to stop in every country.

Oyeeee! what happened to the other four.. LOL !! hahahahahahaha... ohhhh my tummy hurts....... LOL...!

I wouldn't say FBI is pathetic just because of this. Compared to whom? They are still the most sophisticated agency in the world.

as compared to RAW :D r u satisfied now.

Sophistication has nothing to do with competency.

The men are suspected of illegally entering the United States from Canada. A White House spokesman said an anti-terrorism investigation had alerted the FBI to the men, but the FBI said they could not link — or rule out — a connection to terrorism.

The bureau also acknowledged it could not confirm if the men actually crossed the border — or even if their names are correct. But even if the bureau was able to provide all the information confidently, such clarity might not help the manhunt.

For months now, as informed Americans and law enforcement officials have heard these alarms, they have also been inundated with names — many of which sound alike to Western ears — and others which are virtually impossible to differentiate from one another.

**In some cases, the confusion is something even Muslims are familiar with. In others, the Western, Christian-dominated, world’s unfamiliarity with the Muslim world may be to blame. In either case, there are considerable effects on the war on terror. **

FBI is Clueless

just given to understand that fbi has admitted they were given erroneous info and have taken the photo's of the 5 off their website (and called of search?)

Hmmm…Now, the picture is getting more clear.

FBI concludes ‘Five Infiltrators’ Story was a Hoax

WASHINGTON: The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has concluded the tip that led to a nationwide hunt for five men suspected of infiltrating the United States on Christmas Eve was fabricated by an informant, ABC News reported on Monday.

The informant, identified as Michael Hamdani, who was arrested in Canada in late October, created the story about 19 men who were seeking false passports in an attempt to get himself off the hook on criminal charges he was facing in the United States, said the television network, citing unnamed sources.

  • Jeweller thanks US: Pakistani jeweller Muhammad Asghar thanked the American government on Tuesday for fixing the error and reiterated his innocence. Mr Asghar said he was happy to have his name cleared.

A picture that matched Asghar’s face perfectly was listed by the FBI under the name of Mustafa Khan Owasi, one of the men wanted for questioning.

“I am innocent, and God helped me,” Asghar told The Associated Press on Tuesday night in Lahore. “I am thankful to the media who helped me to get out of this hard time. I am also thankful to the FBI and the American government who realized their mistake and removed my name and picture from the wanted list,” he said. —AFP/AP

I dont think he is a terrorist or as the US 'claims' as he is. This is racial profiling and very discriminatory!

I'm watching CNBC and they're showing some stuff about how the fbi got the tip on these 5. one of the clips show stuff captured from either hamdani or other pakistani terrorists - shocked find these guys have well formed printing and embossing blocks of the Indian Indian lion head motiff (used in passports, currency etc.).

I wouldnt call the FBI a bunch of idiots, they are extremely cold hearted and cruel and are on the offensive right now. The US is clearly the technology leader by a longshot, and other countries, even the UK etc dont come close in that regards, and they are making sure their intelligence agencies etc get to use this.

Someone probably got a passport on this person's name, which usually happens in Pakistan, eventhough the issuing of a Passport in Pakistan is not joke, like the ID cards used to be. This actually does not highlight a mistake on the part of the FBI, but rather the passport issuing authority of Pakistan, and the Government needs to make sure people do not get fake passports on other people's names.

May I remind you that some of the best forgers come from India... Apni chaati me pehle jhaank liya kar, chalta-hai-hai

Some words of Mohammad Asghar.

Jeweller Thankful

LAHORE, Jan 8: The jeweller who had claimed that one of the five photographs of suspected terrorists issued by the FBI was his, on Wednesday thanked the US and Pakistani governments for correcting the mistake.

“It happened because I was innocent,” the 34-year-old owner of a jewellery shop at Soha Bazaar, Mohammad Asghar, told this reporter while receiving the felicitations of neighbouring shopkeepers and relatives.

The FBI on Tuesday called off a nationwide search for the five “foreigners” and questioned the reliability of the report, which said the five men had been to the US illegally last month.

The FBI ran the report on its website and also conveyed the information to law-enforcement agents and media personnel, warning the people of the possibility of a terrorist attack on Christmas eve.

“A message telling the local police around the country that the search was off was to be transmitted Tuesday,” a news website quoted an American law-enforcement agent as saying.

“I am thankful to the US authorities who have realised their mistake and removed my name and picture from the list of wanted men,” Mr Asghar said, adding that God had helped him out of the situation. **“Since the FBI circulated my photo, I had been feeling like I was standing close to the gallows.” **

The FBI had warned the American people that the five men had illegally entered the US from Canada on Dec 24 and might carry out a terrorist attack. Mr Asghar came forward on Jan 1 and said he was shocked when he flipped through a local newspaper and saw the name of some Mustafa Khan Owaisi written beneath his picture. **“I have never been to the US or Canada.” **

Mr Asghar distributed sweets at his shop on Wednesday. He said he was still ready for cooperation with the Pakistani authorities or the FBI if they intended any further questioning. “Some Pakistani intelligence agencies men questioned me twice in the last two days,” he said, expressing his belief that they had done so on behalf of the FBI.

Mr Asghar, when asked, said he did not plan to file for damages. “It’s enough for me that I am off the hook,” he concluded.
