'main dil hoon ekm armaan bhara', 'aansoo samaz ke kyu mujhe', 'man dheere dheere gaye re' 'itna na muzse tu pyar badhaa' 'jalte hain jiske liye' 'ai dil mujhe aisi jagah le chal jahan..' 'jaye to jaye kahan' 'meri yaad mein tum na aansoo bahana' 'phir wohi sham wohi ghum'
ZZ,
My two favorite Hemant Kumar songs are:
1)Jane woh Kaise Logh te (Pyaasa - penned by favorite lyricst/poet Sahir Ludhianvi)
2)Tum Pukar Lo (Khamooshi - This film also had two other great songs, "Yeh raat ajeeb si " by Kishore & "Hum ne dekha hai" by Lata).
You've pretty much got all of Talat's best songs listed, with the exception of my favorite, which is:
1) Pyaar par bas to nahin (from "Sone ki Chidiya" again penned by Sahir Ludhianvi)
but i like hemant kumar more as music director than as singer. he has sung a few ghazals too. i forgot them. but a very different music he gave to them.
talat was in the business when rafi had come. rumors claim that naushad favoured rafi over talat cuz he used to smoke cigarette in front of naushad and rafi was good god fearing muslim. this is of course junk. there was no way in which talat could fit in songs ranging from 'yahoo' to 'suhani raat dhal chuki'.. but silky voice of talat has its own flavour. talat was used very well by madan mohan.
But this is complaint is voiced by more than one. Majrooh says that Naushad stopped taking songs from him when it became well known that he was communist and not a believer.
Funnily, though Naushad was so finicky about choosing good Muslims (if these statements are to be believed) he does not seem to have any problems in working with hindus. i dont think if he ever cared what Lata believes in.
please do not convert it in religious debate. i just narrted these stories i read here and there since i felt guys who love old hindi classics may find them of some interest.

I would have thought that SOMEBODY had the following on their list:
all the songs from UMRAO JAAN...sung by Asha;
PAKEEZA songs;
Jo vaada kiya woh nibhana parey ga (film:Taj Mahal)
Sawan ka maheena
Kabhi kabhi..most songs there.
Although, I agree with RANI's taste!!
with Lata 'aayega aanewala' for history it made (25 weeks at top of Binaca. This song single handedly wiped out competition). 'Ooooo, sajana, barakha bahar aayi' from Salil, 'tum kya jano tumhari yaad mein', 'ye zindagi usiki hain', 'tu jahan jahan chalega', 'woh bhuli dastan', 'ruke ruke se kadam', 'bayaan na dharo' etc.
haaN ALL of Pakeezah [best sound track ever?--chalte chalte--best film song ever?!] and all of MUGHAL E AZAM especially the immortal Jab Pyaar kiya to DArna kya...(my two fave. films)
tum hi mere mandir, tum hi meri pooja--i love this song!
kabhi kabhi...
..most of her songs!!! the best female singer in the world. period. (apologies to Nur Jahan :))
actually talking of Nur Jahaan some of her songs ...
Tumhaari saanson mein ab tak woh hinna ki khushboo...
