Re: Oily Face
I also have this problem in the summer cos i live in a hot/humid climate. Do u have spots too or just oily skin? Well like MehnazQ said, the tea tree oil toner mite be helpful...i use tea tree oil on spots, but never tried a toner made of this...also like someone said, wot u eat has a lot of effect on ur skin, so avoid greasy foods and drink lots of water...i've heard u shud avoid products containing alcohol too...and don't use a scrub that often, perhaps a couple of times a week...cedarwood oil is also used as a skin toner for oily skin by some ppl...have u tried lemon/lime juice, that's wot works for me (when i actually get myself to use it!)...
Try this: soak lime/lemon juice over some cucumber slices for one hr., then rub these on ur face...leave on for half an hour (mite sting a little)...then wash with cold water, it's soothing to oily skin.
Also, someone once told me about a carrot pack used for oily skin: 1 TBSP carrot juice, 1 TBSP honey, 10 drops lemon juice (i just squeeze half a lime), and 1 TBSP of multani mitti or gram flour. Mix all of these into a paste, apply and wash off after 20 mins.
I find using rose water is helpful...i use this as my toner, makeup remover etc and also just mist my face with it sometimes to keep it refreshed...don't forget to moisturise, oily skin needs it too so just use an oil-free one.
Re: Oily Face
Is Ortho Tri Cyclen the only birth control pill that helps get rid of acne? Cos i heard that some birth control pills make acne worse.
When i was a teen i went to the dermo but it was a waste of time/money…their medicines r so harsh…just burned my skin or had no effect on the spots…even cleansers made for oily skin don’t suit me for some reason.
Re: Oily Face
Even “natural” herbal soaps, like the ones made in India/Pakistan? I was using Neutrogena deep clean cream cleanser (the foam one was too drying) until i found out in the Religion Forum that gelatin in soaps etc. are haram…so i stopped, and just used the Neutrogena original soap bar for the time being…it was kinda drying and by then i was so fed up of “western” products that i asked my Mum if there was something i cud use, some kind of Pakistani soap i cud try that wud be better for my skin…well, we came up with Neem…so i brought some from the asian shop last week (100% Neem) and so far i haven’t seen much difference from the Neutrogena bar, except the Neem soap is less drying…but it cleans just as well as western soap/cleansers, my skin actually feels much cleaner with Neem…so is there anything wrong with this kind of soap bar?
Re: Oily Face
I think i read somewhere people with oily face dont get wrinkles compared to others...
Re: Oily Face
^ Yea me too, cos the skin has more natural moisture compared to dry skin.
Re: Oily Face
As far as I know, Ortho Tri Cyclen(the regular one…NOT Ortho Tri Cyclen lo) is the only birth control pill that claims to reduce acne. Personally, ever since I started taking Ortho Tri Cyclen(a little over a year ago), my acne reduced dramatically, my skin is less oily, my periods became like clockwork(before it was irregular), and my cramps are much better.
I’ve know a few other women whose acne/oiliness also was reduced after taking this pill. I personally have never met anyone who said Ortho or any other birth control made their acne worse.
Of course, just like with any other meds, how your body reacts to to birth control is totally up to your own hormones and other life style behaviors. I’m lucky that I haven’t experienced any negative side effects at all from Ortho. But that doesn’t guarantee that other women won’t.
I know alot of women are totally against taking the pill for any reason at all…BUT if u don’t mind taking it, or paying $28/month for it(at Planned Parenthood), then I’d recommend that you at least give it a try for a few months. It takes at least one month for your body to adjust to the hormoes…after 2-3 months, if u don’t see any improvement, then u can stop taking it. I mean, every other med/cream etc. for anything, u always gotta wait 4-6 weeks minimum to see any results.
Oh and I’ve also heard that oily skin gets less wrinkles and gets them later than other skin types b/c the oil makes the skin more elastic.
Re: Oily Face
Thanks
sigh My mum won’t let me take birth control pills, cos she says u shudn’t take medicines unless u have a life-threatning problem
But i guess she has a point about side effects, every drug has them…but i wanna try them
cos i want my skin to look its best by the time my wedding comes around…i guess i have to think of something to convince her otherwise i’ll have to take them behind her back, which is not a good idea…i’m probably gona take Ortho after the wedding, so i wish i cud just start taking it now so i’ll have better skin
Re: Oily Face
LOL…yea, my mom’s the same way. She would freak out completely if she found out I was taking them! That’s why I never told her…thank God for being over 18…
Although it was a little stressful while I was living at home…making sure that my mom never found the pills…lol…I remember her making comments a few months after I started taking it…she’d say stuff like “See, I told you if you’d just leave it alone your skin would get better!!!”…IF she only knew!!! ![]()
You said u mom doesn’t believe in meds unless u have a life threatening problem…does that mean she’s against you taking birth control pills even after marriage? IF she doesn’t, then I don’t see why she’d have a problem with u taking them now.
And IF she does have a problem with it even after marriage, will u not take it even then?
Congrats on the engagement…When’s the wedding?
Re: Oily Face
Yea i think so…cos she’s against taking meds cos of any possible risks…she doesn’t even like us taking painkillers…and i think she wudn’t want me to take them after marriage too, but of course we can’t talk about that stuff
But no, i will take them after i get married anyway, i think i even told her that, but she didn’t say anything…
Thank u…Inshallah some time next summer ![]()
Re: Oily Face
I heard from others that soaps are never 100% natural…other things are always added to make ‘em clean the dirt and to make the soap smell better. Using soap on ur face is not a good idea whatsoever. Gelatin is not in all soaps and besides there are 2 kinds of gelatins…one comes out of animals and the other one is plant based and most of the time u cant really tell which kind is used in the products. It is also in many cookies, candies and gums, i hope u r aware of this. Ok, coming back to the topic, I personally use a cleanser by "feces by michel’ and its better than all other products that i have used so far (not 100% satisfiying). Oily skin has alot of acne and pimples and to cure this, use aloe vera gel that says “100% natural, no fragrance added”.
Proactive is also known for its entire system to cure skin problems…try that.
Re: Oily Face
Uhmmm kashmiri, ure a grown woman (ure 23 rite.. well at least ure over 18). You're about to get married out of ur own will, I thin you have a right to decide wats best for you and your body. Parents can do the whole "medicines r wrong!" but in the end its your choice, if u feel the Pill is right for you go ahead.
Re: Oily Face
Hain? There is a cleanser by the name of "Feces"
?
Re: Oily Face
In Dutchyland we have Diane-35 (combination of prog. and cypr.ac.) pills for females, it reduces acne too and it also reduces the growth of hair according to some.
Re: Oily Face
sorry, it was “faces by michel” not FECES…it was a typo and i m not even spelling her name rite:D
and yes there is one by this name and thats a local small company…recently started. And she makes her own stuff.
Re: Oily Face
lol
Re: Oily Face
I think some are, u can tell by the ingredients i suppose…yea i know all about gelatin…don’t have a big problem with acne, but i do have some red marks cos of it …and yea i’ve been using aloe vera gel for about a month now, i think i need to use it for a while to see the benefits…thanks.
Re: Oily Face
So? Wot does being a grown up or the fact that i’m getting married out of my own will have to do with it! If my parents tell me meds r wrong, then they’re saying it cos they’re concerned about my health…btw, i may be a grown woman, but i’m a grown PAKISTANI woman…living with my parents…as long as i’m living under their roof at least, they have a rite to know wot medication i’m taking…if i go by wot ur saying, then i shud be like f*** it, i’m gonna go clubbing every nite and so on, cos in the end it’s my choice! In my opinion, it’s not fair to compare choosing ur life partner to whether u shud be taking birth control or not before marriage.
