Re: oilly hair of men
Methi (fenugreek) has been found by many people to be very effective in arresting hair fall and promoting hair growth. Also, some commercial hair growth products also contain methi as one of the ingredients. Only a few days ago…several of my mom’s friends had mentioned that methi is very helpful and I’ve experienced it myself as well. Here is a remedy.
What you need:
1) Empty and clean water **bottle **or any bottle.
2) Methi dana (methi seeds). You can easily buy them from your local desi market. They look like this: http://www.indianmommy.com/recipes/spices/Fenugreek%20Seeds.jpg
3) Extra virgin olive oil. (make sure that the bottle says extra virgin on it). And if you already have it at home, make sure it’s not expired. Olive oil expires after a year and a half.
4) Mustard Oil. You can find this from your local desi market as well.
Procedure:
**1) **Fill HALF the bottle with methi seeds. DO NOT GRIND THE SEEDS.
2) Next pour in EQUAL quantities of olive oil and mustard oil in the bottle. It doesn’t matter which oil you pour first. If you pour 1 cup olive oil, then you must also pour 1 cup mustard oil. DO NOT SHAKE THE BOTTLE. The oil should rest on top of the seeds, don’t shake. So basically you should see a layer of seeds on the bottom of the bottle and a layer of oil on top of the seeds.
3) Leave the bottle alone for a day…to let the oils steep in the seeds.
**
METHOD:**
1) The affect of methi seeds is very warm…so it helps with blood circulation in the scalp. The methi seeds will lend their warming affect to the oil.
**
2)** You will ONLY apply the oil to the scalp and NOT the seeds. Just the oil.
3) Massage oil GENTLY on scalp for about 5-10 minutes moving fingertips in a rotating fashion. In the beginning you can massage for only 5 minutes as it will be easier. Massage oil on scalp and also apply on the hair for conditioning.
**4) ** Gently wash the oil with shampoo after about 1-2 hours. Don’t keep the oil on for too long because it’s rather strong.
5) Some people apply this oil every day. Some apply it every other day. You can try applying it every other day and see how it works. If it is too strong for you…then apply it a couple times a week. You should hopefully see a reduction in hair fall in about 2 months of regular use.
For fine and oily hair a clarifying shampoo works best. Neutrogena has a clarifying shampoo. And Suave has a nice clarifying shampoo as well. Another shampoo that is VERY GOOD is Nioxin. Nioxin cleans the scalp and eliminates the chemical DHT which commonly causes thinning of hair and hair loss. Try the methi oil application. And when you wash remove the oil from your hair…first shampoo with Suave Clarifying…and then the second time gently shampoo with Nioxin.
Diet and stress also play a role in hair loss. So make sure to eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits/veggies/protein. Drink plenty of water. Exercise and get sufficient sleep. And reduce stress/tension.
Keep in mind that hair loss can also be hereditary and in this case it’s harder to control. So if the above suggestions have not helped, then consult your dermatologist. A dermatologist might recommend various commercial hair growth products such as Rogaine, Minoxidil, Propecia, etc. Alternative treatments could include hair transplant or laser therapy. Best wishes.
