Obama Takes Iowa

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

More than Obama, I am very much worried about Huckabee's rise. The way he got evengelicals interested and mobilized in this election may not be good sign for democrats. So far evengelicals were less interested in the election because none of the leading candidates appealed to them. If huckabee wins primary then it will be very tough fight in final election.Against others I thought democrats had very good chance.

I know it is very early to talk about final elections but what the heck .. :D

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

I agree with your view on Biden being the most experience in terms of for. policy, he would make a fine VP or Sec. of State. But your selling Obama short.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Biden was the best bet IMHO.
Hillary is, as Faisal said, calculating and compassionless.
Edwards is a mamby pamby socialist.
As for Obama, I don't think US is willing to elect a black president at this time. Too bad, I think he would be GREAT.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

^ Thank Heavens one has seen the light. Republicans will rule the white house for another 8 years. None of the dumbocrats are electable.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Faisal, I did not know that politicians could get you excited :). Man you need to get out more.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Every single Republican candidate scares the sh!t out of me. Luckily they are just as unelectable.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

^ Come on admit it, you like McCain. We all love a vet who actually is proud of his service (as opposed to Frankstien= Kerry).

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

McCain is the least scary for sure. I do like him.

As for Kerry I wouldn't be proud to have participated in the South Asian massacre either. He has a conscience and humanity, bully for him.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Iowa Cucuses were jam packed with voters. They all came to vote for Obama, he seemed to have re-energized the young democratic base. You had to see the passion shown by under 21 kids from all over the place standing in cold January winter, freezing temperature with Obama signs. All of them were new voters, I was surprised that Ron Paul did not do that well. Let's see if he can pick up steam, but the turn out for Democrats and Obama shows that this time Democracts are real serious about winning in '08.

Clinton was relying on women voters, but most of them went to Obama. They all said that she is good, intelligent and able, but don't think she can win the Presidential Election. She brings a lot of baggage and unlike Bill does not have the skill to beat the negative campaign.

McCain has seen the new life in his bit for White House, but conservatives hate him. First for his opposition to what he called tax cuts for rich, than Iraq war, Immigration and than supporting Bush when his ratings were 30%. He would need a lot of help especially from Romney and Thompson, if these two fade away than Republicans will try for a compromise with McCain. He is not their first choice.

Huckabee surge is one for books, he came from no where. Out spent, Mike relied on the evengelicals, but even moderate Republicans voted for him. He brings a fresh look to Republicans, one of the few who talks about environment, fair tax and takes on Bush's policies in Iraq. I don't think he is a one hit wonder, unless Giuliani can beat him on Super Tuesday.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

You'd vote for hillary just b/c she's a woman?

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

I'll admit i don't know much abt the politics or who's into what BUT--i sure hope hat people aren't so stupid that they'll vote for obama OR hillary just b/c of their race or gender. IMO those should never be the deciding factors in choosing a president/candidate. Unfortunately i don't doubt the stupidity of american ppl
who will use those factors in deciding who to vote for

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

I am happy to see Obama win. Hillary looks like a Zionist to me. She voted for the unjust war against Iraq, and her another vote strengthened Bush's plans to start war against Iran.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

I dont think Obama is going to be the next president. Niether is Hillary. Dems could have fielded a more likeable and electable candidate and would have won hands down.

that is true, I dont think either hillary or obama will win the presidency, unless thet are on one ticket then there is a higher probability.

but they will win.

McCains flip flops will haunt him, and he is the best of GOp candidates in my view, but he has to be a comeback kid to win. its between huckabee and romney right now,

anyways- at the end of the day, I doubt that there will be a 180 degree turn in US foriegn policy in a short time frame, even if there is a change it will take years to implement so for the short to mid term its going to be pretty much the same.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

When do these candidates announce who their running mate (vice president) will be?? And do these caucuses happen in every state? or just a few?

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

^ Don't you live in NY? I am asking because I thought you would know about this stuff.

Anyway, about your question, the running mates are announced after the primaries when the convention elects a leader to represent the party. For example, john edward was a presidential hopeful that didn't do that well in the primaries last time so afterwards he became the running mate of kerry, the nominee to be for the democrats in 2004.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Caucuses happen in all states but sadly states like New York don't count and don't get the media buzz. A lot of these states are bunched together in February this year and you really can't individual media coverage like it is in New Hampshire or Iowa!

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Most states use primaries rather than the caucus method. This week New Hampshire has their primary and currently Obama is polling roughtly 10 points ahead. The following week is when Michigan conducts theirs (it was moved up). Clinton has polled well there so even if she loses NH she could fall back on MI but seeing how much Obama has closed in on her there will be interesting.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

I liked Obama in the beginning, but when he made those comments regarding pakistan...i could not support him.

On CNN, they were showing the presidential debate and Huckabee said "Islam and Islmo-fascists" remarks about al qeada "taking over" america how "they dont like the way of american life" etc...that blew me off...dont like any of them now.

hilllary got her own agendas...you never know about her.

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

^^ So far all Candidates are against Pakistan

Re: Obama Takes Iowa

Yea, if you are looking for a can candidate who is pro-pakistani terrorists you are unlikely to find them in this field.
