Obaidullah Baig passed away in Karachi on Friday morning.

Re: Obaidullah Baig passed away in Karachi on Friday morning.

You wouldn't call him a mainstream poet. But he was fond of poetry and during his many Kasauti shows you could see him recite some poetry. Some of that poetry was his. There was a famous incident in which ubaidullah sold a 100 rupee bank note with Faiz ahmed faiz's hand written poetry for some large sum. Then he later bought the same 100 Rupee bill and paid double the amount. So I'm sure he was a poet himself.

Actually yesterday when I told my boss about the demise of this great man, I mistakenly said Ubaidullah Aleem. My boss corrected me and said ' Kasauti main Ubaidullah Baig the, Ubaidullah Aleem was a poet, jinhon ne wo chand chehre likhi thi'

Inna lillahe wainna ilehi rajiun

Indeed a great scholar of PAK land passed away.
Somtime I think that many scholars, writers having patriotism in their hearts have gone to other good world but what have left to us still unknown.
I dont find any pakistani having same knowledge and character like of Ashfaq ahmad, Mumtaz Mufti, Shahab sb, Obaidullah, Mehdi Hassan and the list goes on.

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayihi Raajioon.

The likes of Obaidullah Baig and the culture of literacy that he inspired comprise an integral element of Pakistan’s intellectual capital… which is otherwise constantly depleting. The trailblazer that he’s been, I can only hope that among those who revered him, he has influenced a few people who can follow in his footsteps and can continue to inform and educate us through modicums of thought provoking entertainment.

Thank you Baig saheb for being a dedicated and passionate explorer of the enormity and wonder of this world and taking all of us along for a breathtaking ride. You will be severely missed.
