It’s a mixed gathering, hence all the more reason for niqaab right? The fact is women have been explicitly prohibited to wear veils in Ihram, yet no where in the Quran are women explicitly ordered to wear a face veil. Pardah does not mean you must make a woman blind when she’s outdoors, driving, shopping or working.
On a similar note, with our Islamic arranged marriage system, how do you expect people to choose partners without having seen the faces of their prospects? For me niqaab is not a fiqh issue, its a common sense one.
