One captain and nine potential captains!
I feel sorry for the 11th guy already. Why doesn't he eye the captaincy too? That should make a perfect team. Each player will be a captain in his own right/view. :)

I think trying shoaib as a captain will be a complete disaster....
This is a catch 22 situation for PCB regarding Captain
We have three options
Waqar: As an individual he is a friendly and cooperative person.. He treats his teammates w/ respect –unlike Moin & Wasim (both of them have serious attitude problem)…But Waqar as player/ bowler is pathetic.. He is now more of a liability than a leader.
Wasim: I call him the great Yoda- master of all trade—the best man to lead any side…but he has a very shady/suspicious past as a Captain—if PCB make him Captain (which I think they should) they should be ready for flood of criticism.
Moin: I don’t see why we need Moin in the team, Rashid is doing good job w/ gloves… As a big hitter we don’t need him all Pak batsman are aggressive in nature.please!!! Don’t bring him back—he will bring more politics to the team.
Shoaib: hahaha…making him Captain will ruin his bowling…worst thing that we can do for him right now is burden him w/ captaincy…
The only person who deserve to be captain is Wasim Akram—but I doubt he will accept captaincy
P.S:Where are you Question(anees)? long time no see man!!

Faisal bhai are you trying to be Sarcastic??
Dil toor deya aap ne… i always thought you are on my side!!
:)
Yaar, it was just way too funny.
Don't you remember, how Waqar publicly humiliated Youhanna by sending him back in the middle of the tour on disciplinary grounds? After the defeats in ICC Trophy, there were rumors (where there is smoke there is fire) that he blamed senior players for not performing, and accepted none of the blame himself.
None of these are good from a team-morale point of view. And the results are now very obvious. The whole team comprises a bunch of inexperienced youngsters who struggled pretty badly against the Aussie juggernaut. Waqar has destroyed the team spirit by his over-the-top attitude.
To top it all off, he is a bad captain. He rode a wave of luck and some brilliant performances from individual players, but even in victories it was obvious that he is not a brilliant captain by any means. His bowling changes, field placements and batting order changes drew sharp criticism. These are the stuff which a captain is supposed to do. If you take these out, what's left?
And the last reason, he is a bad choice to be a captain is because I am not even sure he deserves a place in the team, in the first place.
Except for the match-fixing allegations, which were never fully proven, Waseem is the best choice. He is senior, he is a star performer, he is aggressive and above all, he is an automatic choice in the team atleast till WC 2003, at which time he has already announced retirement. We might not win the world cup under him, but hopefully we will not be eliminated in the first round, which is a very real possibility looking at the rash of recent disasters by the neo-Pakistani team under Waqar.
No worries mate..Yaar Faisal I was just joking..
As for Waqar:humm.. Waqar seems to be a decent guy... he don't curse..scream at players...>>regarding Youhanna incident--I think Mudassar was equally involved it that brawl...
I am not saying Waqar should be captain ..HELL NO!

He may not scream and curse, but he bad-mouths them, humiliates them publicly and plays politics in the team all the time, which is even worse.
Unfortunately he is still retained as captain for the test team, and if I am not wrong, some days ago, someone in PCB had said that Waqar is being retained as captain till WC 2003. So, I am not sure if all the current rumours in Dawn newspaper are reliable which suggest that board may announce a different captain for ODI's. It might all turn out to be a watershed and Waqar be nominated as captain for ODI's in any case. A pity, I say.
The worst thing about having Waqar as the captain is that you cannot bench him for a few matches if he is not performing. Wasim has a definite edge over Waqar for his superior leadership skills, 'UNDERSTANDING' of the game, and batting. Unfortunately, Wasim did ruin Waqar's career when he was able to bowl well, and seems like Waqar has a penchant for things such as revenge.
It makes me sad that there are some people in PCB whose short lists Shoaib appeared on. Captain should be the most mature if not the smartest player in the team, and here we have Shoaib on his high horse declaring himself the greatest bowler ever. The guy is having a hard time keeping his foot out of his mouth and you want to make him the captain?
Moin and Wasim, have the best cricketing minds in this team. Making the decision about who bowls when is not the only thing a captain does on the field.
By the way, if it is too painful to let go of Rashid, we can have Moin back in the team as a batsman (and as a Captain?). His batting technique is much better than that of Rashid, and he is certainly more reliable than the likes of Imran Nazir and Afridi.
By the way, if this story is indeed true that PCB is thinking of appointing a different captain for the 1day matches, it may be their way of saving Waqar the abashment of stepping down (before the world cup) on his own.
I think Saqlain is a good player and has a good cricket mind, he can be a captain in OneDays and perhaps a VC in Tests, and whenever Waqar is retired or is kicked out, can take over captaincy at both levels. He isnt a liability on the team and he has started performing well recently. Only bad thing is that he cant speak english, or so I heard.

Well, Moin's technique is better then Rashid?? Come on, Moin doesnt show a straight bat unlike Rashid! But yeah Moin is a fighter and his batting record is better then Rashid .. But Rashid more often then not plays with a stright bat...
Rashid plays straighter but Moin performs when it really matters. In every world cup he's played he's been one of our best players that rises to the big occasion. You can't buy that.
Plus I miss Moin's constant bak-bakking behind the stumps. Latif's done nothing wrong but he's standing in the way of one of our proven champs. That's all there is to it.

Sallam Jeray I am here I am being a silent observer now adays :) I think its not worth to comment on GS.
As usual your comments are funny with good observation, I can't really say anything about the captaincy. I thought Waqar was doing a good job untill Youhana insidence. I think ever since PCB announced that Waqar will lead till the World Cup he became selfish, arogant and bossy. Before the Kenya cup he was doing a good job specially uniting the team players and making them play as a team but I guess its Paki tendency to go off track or maybe get jealous easily from others and start bringing in the politics. Waqar could have lead the team till WC if he had kept his cool and be responsible instead of blaming others.
I think Waqar should retire and start making money by being a coatch or something but I don't think he deserve a place in the team. I don't trust Wasim, Moin either for captancy and about Shoaib if he leads then PAK will make another low scoring record this time in ODI. I would go for Razzaq but since the World Cup is around Razzaq won't be able handle the burden.
So my suggestion to PCB since the World Cup is around keep Waqar as a captain but make sure he deals properly with the team instead of blaming seniors or juniors he should take some responsibility, get together with the team players and come home with the World Cup and then retire along with Wasim. Happy ending :)
PS: I wish Imran Khan could come back and coatch the team with DANDA.
Wohi dhaak kay teen paat!
As I had suspected they named Waqar as ODI captain too... good luck for the WC 2003! :)
