Re: Need your advice
Mirch I agree with you 100%.

TLK** You did the right thing. Gift idea was really dumb and as someone suggested, it would be an ADDITIONAL gesture that you accepted that you are at fault. Mirch also said that looks can be deceiving, let me share a personal incident with you.
A few years ago my car had come to a stop during the rush hour traffic. My lane didn’t move for some time while the lane on my left was moving slowly. I decided to get into that lane but misjudged the distance between my car and the one in front of it. BAM. My front bumper’s right side (and headlight) hit the other car’s rear bumper’s drivers side while I tried to switch lanes. I immediately stopped, got out, we called the cops, the cops came and made the police report. One of the cops knew me personally as he was the husband of my first employer. He asked the other cop NOT to give me a ticket and told me that. So basically I gave them my insurance information but asked them NOT to contact my insurance because I was in teens and it was going to increase my insurance. Then we went to our homes.
A few days later, they called me (and I don’t know if they mailed me the estimate but I think they did) asked me to pay damages. The amount was more than what I thought the damage was worth. I asked the old lady to let my mechanic give her an estimate and she got upset. She said that she is the one who asked the cops not to give me a ticket and now I am doing THIS to her in return?
I was like okay lady, calm down. Dad said we’ll just pay the damage so that the insurance is not contacted. We did and I don’t think they ever contacted the insurance company.
Another incident and I’ll keep it short. Got in an accident in downtown. It was partially the pick up trucks fault because she immediately stopped but I was following too closely, brakes skid and I hit her, so legally it was my fault. Cops came, I got a ticket, insurance paid and everything was fine. 3 years later I got a call from the insurance company that they were suing me for some INTERNAL damages. I was like you’ve got to be kidding me. I hit them at a speed of less than 20 MPH and I don’t think there can be many internal damages. The insurance company said that’s all they needed to know from me. Then I never heard back from anyone.
