As for Musharraf promotion to army chief, you must have read 100s of time that Nawaz (according to his racist beliefs) choose Musharraf because he thought that Musharraf being Muhajir, would not have loyalty of army to do coup against him. Anyhow, racialism in Punjab has another factor and that is much stronger than cast (ethnicity), and that is personal relation. In Punjab, personal relation counts more than cast or ethnic background. People look at those they know first and ethnicity comes later. Anyhow, this ethnic bias in Punjab works above merit and when dealing with strangers. So, Nawaz forgot that Musharraf being part of army had plenty of personal relation.
Nawaz also did not realised that Musharraf wife is from Okara plus Musharraf being of 'Syed background', this racialist thinking of Nawaz did not worked, as people of 'Syed background' in Pakistan find least racialist or ethnic discrimination.
