Naraz laraki bivi...

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

Khoji, because the stadium was handed over to PCB from the city government. :D

but again, how does division of district help development?

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

Rani Bagh, the zoological garden, has also been renovated recently in 2008.

http://www.dawn.com/2008/11/22/local13.htm

HYDERABAD, Nov 21: Visitors on Saturday will step inside an entirely reinvigorated Rani Bagh after its inaugural by Sindh Governor Ishrat ul Ebad.

Having spent Rs150 million on its refurbishment and renovation, the district government plans to hand it over to Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA) Qasimabad on Saturday after its inauguration. The people, it is hoped would love to visit the place, if properly kept.

Undoubtedly, it is a step in the right direction on the part of district government for providing healthy recreational environment to the people of Hyderabad and its adjoining districts. Rani Bagh would serve as a significant location with its eye-catching view and relaxing atmosphere.

Sprawling over 58 acres, the Bagh until recently had gone to dogs – courtesy official neglect while none in successive governments ever bothered at preserving the historic resort. District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil raised the cost of project from Rs50 million to Rs150 million for providing quality recreational facility to people.

One can thoroughly enjoy the scenic beauty of the garden from any angle with iron fencing and boundary walls well-positioned but the threat of stray dogs still hounding at places.

The land of garden remained water-logged with municipal zoo nothing to offer to visitors and birdwatchers. So bad were the condition of zoo and the cages of animals that some animals were sent to Karachi after heavy rains in September 2006, which inundated the Rani Bagh and municipal zoo, besides disturbing few urban settlements.

It’s a pride to have a beautiful spot in city’s centre and approachable from all four talukas and districts.

The TMA plans charging a nominal entrance fee from visitors to meet maintenance cost for the upkeep of such a huge infrastructure and to discourage the lousy lot from making it their haven. There would be two entrances one from the Fatima Jinnah Road and the other from Qasimabad.

According to the Deputy Project Director of the Hyderabad Development Package Abdul Aleem Ghori **some 2,000 new plants have given a new lease to the park **with plans on to acquire a trackless train through the assistance of private sector. Tile drainage, he hoped, would help in overcoming water logging and salinity for the benefit of grass and plants.

Another achievement is cages constructed for imported animal species like vervet monkey, blue monkey, yellow baboon, grey parrot, black buck, mafloon, alpaca, zebra, lama pony horse, blue, green wing and gold macaw (parrots), black, fallow, spotted, and white fallow (deer), provided by Taaz Zoological Breeding and Research Karachi with the help of district government. Animals, including a lioness are being transported back from Karachi at a cost of Rs11 million.

The adjacent open air theatre – popular place for stage-dramas -** Eid Gah and Abbas Bhai Park too, have been given a facelift.** People began thronging Rani Bagh on knowing that the renovation was done but were denied entry on Friday as final touches were being given for its inaugural on Saturday.

Abbas Bhai Park, in the past, was blatantly used for marriage parties and was even let out to a caterer. One sincerely hopes that it will not be allowed for such occasions in future.

However, reports are rife that a federal minister plans holding the wedding function of his son next month, probably in Abbas Bhai Park.

It was handed over BY the district government to PCB, AFTER the district government had reconstructed the stadium.
This is from 2006:
http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/story/248131.html
Kanwar Naved Jameel, Hyderabad district Nazim (mayor), said the management of the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad would be handed over to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) completely…
Kanwar said the District Government has taken all possible measures within its available resources for the renovation of the Niaz\ stadium.

But as usual, PCB is neglecting Niaz Stadium yet again. This is from 2009:
http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-37288192_ITM
Sindh Minister for Sports Dr Muhammad Ali Shah has expressed his concern over the performance of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in maintenance of Niaz Stadium Hyderabad and added that it is better if district government Hyderabad look-after the Niaz Stadium instead of PCB.

The district will again fall in the hands of incompetent. The same people who have neglected Hyderabad (and Sindh in general) for decades.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

^ I agree that the landlords of Sindh have no interest in developing their areas. They have second houses (and wives) in Karachi and their families normally live in Khi.

This doesn't apply to Hyderabad, however. MQM has been a major political force in Hyd for at least a couple of decades now and nothing was done about the city then.

Are you implying that MQM will only do something if absolute power is handed over to them?

Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha etc have been under joint political power of PPP and PML over the years and that did not hamper development (atleast they are much better managed than Hyd).

I think a major reason is skewed development expenditure in Sindh where a major portion of funds available to the province were spent in Karachi, probably under the blackmail (read the opening post) from MQM.

Try persuading Shahbaz Sharif to manage Hyd for a change? ;)

The district was divided only a few years back.

Agreed. And what you said shows that there was something deeper and sinister in neglecting Sindh's cities.

No thanks. He will bring people like Rana Sanaullah, Taliban, and SSP with him. Shahbaz has succeeded in making Punjab another safe-heaven for Taliban lunatics. He now has to beg those lunatics to spare Punjab from their terror.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

Hyderabad Airport has been re-opened in 2008 after it was closed ten years ago. Can you imagine this being done to one of the most populated cities of Pakistan?

The city has a modestly good airport. The operation was stopped for some years but the airport has started operating again from late 2008.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

Yes. Its really painful with political forces busy in ethnic violence, the city has been neglected over the last 3 decades.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

Other flyovers and bypasses in the city by the District Government of Hyderabad.

http://www.dawn.com/2008/02/29/local25.htm
HYDERABAD, Feb 28: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed contractors, engineers and concerned officials to complete construction of Ghanghro Mori Bypass by June.

He expressed satisfaction over the progress work of flyover at the railway crossing and the road sector. He further directed work on widening of road on both sides from Fateh Chowk to Ghangra Mori.

He said at least one side of the road should be opened for traffic after completing the work on the black top.

He expressed the hope that this project which included construction of a flyover on the National Highway near Hala Naka, another flyover on lined channel railway crossing, four-lane 13 kilometres road and grills on both banks of lined channel will be completed at a cost of Rs760 million within a period of eight months.

He said this project will ease pressure within the city and will also facilitate vehicular traffic coming from Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Sanghar, Umerkot, Badin and other towns of interior Sindh, which will have a direct passage to Super Highway without entering the city.

Concerned engineers briefing the District Nazim said problems of encroachments were being faced but will be overcome soon. They said Hesco had already been paid Rs1.4 million to remove high-tension lines and electric poles from the centre of roads.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

and BHAI back to terrorism, blackmail and threats…

Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, said Sunday that a conspiracy was being hatched to trigger ethnic riots and to sabotage the current atmosphere of harmony among permanent residents of Sindh…

Those are just some examples of development work done by district government in the city.
My concern is that incompetent people will make a come back if the division of district is canceled. This decision will not be good for any one except some bureaucrats in provincial government.

Gilani should think beyond the party line and for the betterment of the people of Sindh before making any decision about the future of the city. He is the prime minister of the whole country, and not just one party.

Credit goes to PPP government because Mush and allies have not done it in 10 years.

But it was Hyderabad district government who did it. It was not PPP.

http://apnahyderabad.info/category/sindh/

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil had pursued the matter and the airport is now reopening under the prime minister’s orders.

He claimed that due to the efforts of the district government of Hyderabad and the Haq Parast leadership, Hyderabad Airport would be reopened and it would start its first flight from August 3.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

the only thing, apart from terrorism, MQM is good at is marketing... specially marketing the nonexistent.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

PPP Should play this song

It always works for me

Well said :k:

This ‘khoji’ is pretending he is not a MQM member, but his postings read direct from MQM propaganda.

His ehtnic scare mongering and false claims are exactly the methods of the MQM.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

"This khoji" is only talking about the development work that was accomplished in Hyderabad by the district government. This work brought Hyderabad back from the BIG VILLAGE status that many incompetent waderas in PPP Sindh would like to inflict on that city.
Where do you see ethnic mongering? Waderas and jagirdars are the enemies of ALL people of Sindh, rural and urban alike. They have never done anything for ANYONE in Sindh. They WANT to keep rural Sindh illiterate and underprivileged so that they could keep poor souls under their shoes. And you are supporting these people?

And if my citing of the developmental work make you bring MQM and its terrorism in this discussion then I pity you to be a Pakistani. People like you are more concerned about party affiliations then the good of people of Pakistan, regardless of ethnicity.

What could be more BASIC of demands from a large city then to ask for a zoological garden, an airport, a cricket stadium, a sewerage system, and roads? What could be? Hyderabad was deprived of these very basic necessities, and now when some one tries to provide people their rightful development then people come forward abusing them for daring to work for people?!
But God is Great and Just. Such hypocrites will not succeed. Insha Allah. Power to people.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi…

I don’t know what kind of PPP leaders are in the rest of Pakistan, but PPP leaders in Sindh have not done much for anyone, including their most loyal of the populations.
Lyari has always been the most steadfast of PPP supporter. But for the last few years people there have started seeing the indifferent attitude of people they vote for so enthusiastically.

Lesson is that in the end people want their problems solved. They might vote for some one based on ethnicity for a while, but this can not continue if leaders do nothing for the good of people.

http://www.dawn.com/2007/12/20/local1.htm

The party’s popularity graph shows a negative trend during the past few years because of senior party leaders’ alleged indifferent attitude towards local problems.

The intra-party differences surfaced when dissident party workers led by former MNA Waja Karim Dad openly opposed the nomination of former deputy speaker of the Sindh assembly Sardar Nabeel Ahmad Gabol for NA-248 and the nominations of two former provincial legislators, Rafiq Engineer and Salim Hingora, for PS-108 and PS-109.

The dissident group has fielded Shakoor Shad, a former president of the Sindh People’s Youth, against Nabeel Gabol while Haroon Rashid, brother of former nazim of Lyari Abdul Khaliq Juma, is contesting against Rafiq Engineer.

The absence of Baloch nationalists in the field, the JI boycott and a low-profile candidate put by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement will help the PPP to dominate the electoral scene despite the fact that cracks have appeared in the traditional vote bank of the party as was evident during the past three elections because of the failure of the party to address local problems.

It is true that the PPP vote bank has been decreasing with the passage of time, but the party has still an organized network of workers, who are well experienced in the art of election politics.

Re: Naraz laraki bivi...

This is a just an attempt by the certain Sindhi nationalist elements in the PPP to cause problem. Hyderabad is a city, why merge it with Matiari and other rural areas. Its makes no sense at all.

I am from Dadu, and they split the district in two, and no one seems to be talking about merging it. For the record, Dadu was part of Karachi till 1935, when the British colonial authorities created it as a seperate district. If I am right, in 1841, when the British annexed Sindh and ended a hundred and fifty years of misrule by the Kalhoro and Talpurs, there wre only six districts.

All this talk about Hyderabad District is the cheapest form of poltiking by the PPP.

Kaka,

The word bhai is used by most Urdu speakers to address each other. I know Punjabis use caste title like Rana Sahib, Raja Sahib, Chaudhary Sahib e.t.c as form of address. Thats your culture, and I have no problem with it. But why did you criticise mine.

I did not criticise the term 'bhai'. You can call me bhai if you want to and I love to call my friends and cousins 'bhai'. *No need to make everything ethnic. *

I used the term in context of underworld gangs' lingo where the gang leader is threatening violence if his demands are not met.
