Not sure if Zaheer Abbas can be considered the game's great.
He averaged 36 in 42 Tests played away. His career average is boosted to 44 because of at home average of 58 in 36 Tests.
His career average against West Indies (home and away) is 18 in 16 innings
His career average against New Zealand is 17 in 28 innings
Don't just look at Zaheer's test average. Look at his one-day record as well (an average of 47.62) He was one ofonly 6 batsmen of his era (others being Viv Richards, Miandad, Greg Chappell, Haynes and Greenidge) who averaged 40+ in both tests and ODIs
Zaheer had 4 double hundreds in 70 odd tests, two each against England (both in England incl. his highest score of 274) and India
Besides average is not everything. Zaheer was sheer class and grace at the crease, one of the sweetest timers of the cricket ball.
And it was also very noticeable (and Imran Khan wrote this in his autobiography 'all-round view') that when both Zaheer and Miandad were at the crease together and in form, Zaheer easily outscored Miandad because of his exquisite timing
