One of my friend in university had Bhoosay Wala as last name.

it can be, but not if people think "chamaar" is a gaali than a last name.
You know I was surprised when a professor/scholar from heera-mandi(dancing street) was telling in an interview that
"we are kanjers" Then I knew kanjer was actually a clan/last name not a gaali.

You know I was surprised when a professor/scholar from heera-mandi(dancing street) was telling in an interview that "we are kanjers" Then I knew kanjer was actually a clan/last name not a gaali.
Then you might have understood Baba Bulleh Shah saying 'Nach Nach Ke Yaar Mana Layiye, Pawen Kanjri Banna Pay Jaave'.

Carpenter, Doctor, Engineer, Contractor are also last names. The dancing girls of Heera Mandi I think that's the title - I forget) is actually a nice book. Nothing wrong about the women - just another profession.

Memon is a cast / community which is mainly based in Karachi, Gujrat and famous for their business and trading act.
In Parsis / Gujarati, there is a cast Engineer . Jimmy Engineer is a famous Pakistani artist.

Most of you are not old enough- but Nari Contractor and Farookh Engineer were cricketers - the former was injured in West Indies (by Wes Hall?) and so Mansur Alik Khan Patudi took over captaincy at the ripe old age of 21. Farookh Engineer was an exciting keeper-batsman through the early 60s to mid 70s. Both I believe are Parsees.
