The Lal Sohanran National Park Canal
The Lal Sohanran National Park is located in Bahawalpur District. It comprises irrigated forest plantations, tropical thorn forest, a lake, canal and the Cholistan Desert. Wildlife includes Nilgai, Gazelle, Hog Deer, Caracal, Ratel, Striped Hyaena, Caracal, Wild Cat, Fox, Peacock, Partridges, Sandgrouse, Crow Pheasant, Shrikes, Vultures, Honey Buzzard, Egrets, Larks, turtle and plenty of reptiles such as snakes, lizards and amphibians. There is a captive breeding programme for the now extinct Blackbuck, Nilgai and Chinkara. The latter are quite rare too. Blackbuck and Nilgai were once found as far west as Jhelum. Hunting pressure has exterminated them form many haunts. Nilgai can still be found on the Indian border regions and Changa Manga. If given a chance they will establish themselves rapidly.
