My daughter tended to do the same thing until I created an environment where meal time became family time.
Since often it was just me and her at home and this wasn't enough....I would take her to my brother's place for dinner where there was mamoo, maami, hira baji and saba taat (her cousins). Sitting with all of them at the dinner table and having a proper regimen made her want to participate.
Now she is much better.
