hareem I have researched a lot most are converting under Wahabi Ideolgy and I will also tell you y because when most of them were asked they said that the concept of Pir is just like pope in christianity so they we want a direct connection with GOD if we wanted pir than we shouldnt left christanity

Those who are converting to wahabism have less or no educated background and also because wahabi literature is available for free in UK (funded by Saudis) but still they are not a majority and I hope it stays like that.

Now about the pir and priest, I can give you all the hadith about bait/bayah but let me tell you that no one has to take a pir in Orthodox Islam, you take bait only if you’re following a tariqah (method for tassawuf). And even if you take bait it doesn’t mean that your pir is the connection between you and God. Pir’s role is like a teacher or mentor but I understand you have only seen typical pir mureeds in Pakistan who take money for taaweez and stuff.
