out of context, or bring comments in context to put real meaning behind those..point being if it was made for indians, by indians..forget pakistanis, you upset a part of your own population. Nuff said
This is really interesting. Someone above said something which I really agree with. If Pakistanis take offense to movies such as Gaddar, then why are they supporting the industry which is responsible for these type of movies by watching Indian movies in the first place? Seriously. I don't live in Pakistan, but my uncle who is visiting us tells me that Indian cable channels are always on in my cousins houses and the case is similar for most Pakistani houses which can afford cable. This is really pathetic. I suppose this is why Jinnah's dream of a paradise for Indian Muslims (aka Pakistan) never worked out. We pakistanis are strange don't you think? We devour Indian entertainment even when it kicks us in our face, yet the idea of watching a Pakistani movie or even attempting to step into the paki film field is an embarrasment to our social standing! If someone thinks I'm wrong - please, correct me.
PyariCGudia, I think you really do not know much about the pakistani film industry, that is why you are suggesting people to step into it perhaps. Well in Pakistan, the movie going culture has decayed continuously over past 20 to 25 years, and the quality of the movie reflects that. The gradual rise of TV, and a high quality of the TV dramas is one of the man reasons for that.
Pakistani film makers have usually trash to star in movies, and very little budget to make it; that off course on top of lack of creativity and even their own incapability. So I think there is no reason to try and patronize the pak film industry.
As long as the indian movies are concerned, it is very easy to sell a movie, and make money out of it if you somehow get the viewers emotionally involved in it, which many a times is the main idea behind the movie.
But movie makers have always used emotions to make money, and it doesnt matter if its a positive emotion or negative, if its based on truth or lies.
Most of the indian movie makers are making movies with the fact in their minds that its the hindu movie-watchers that will provide them a lion's share of revenue, so they cater to their needs, its simple as that. It has nothing to do with intellect, and thought provoking issues. They make movies about "aatankvaadis" simply because the current government has used it as an election slogan, and stirred people's emotions regarding this issue. Now simply the movie makers and the government feed off each other, one gains politically, and the others racks cash in the box office.
I definitely know that the paki film industry is in a crisis and has been in it for a long time - but with movies like Tere Pyar Mein and directors like Sameena Peerzada and Javed Sheikh and producers like Sajjad Gul, you’d have to be totally heartless not to admit that there are individuals who are trying to improve the industry and that improvement is being made. My point was not to patronize the paki film industry. My aim was to get people to realize that nothing in this world is lost cause - the paki film industry being one of them. Remember, if you’re not trying to fix the problem, then you’re part of it. I know that paki films are not a near match for indian films. But (my bias) I’ve always felt that if a few pakistanis spent less time patronizing the Indian film industry and more time examining the movie crisis and offering solutions to fix the problem, maybe we, like the Indians, would be able to proudly claim we belong to a nation with a great film industry. Unfortunately, there’s little appreciation in Pakistan for the arts. Not many give a damn about paki poetry, paki literature, paki paintings, paki plays, and paki films. Art is a binding factor in nationality. Any successful civilization knows that. Unfortunately, Pakistan doesn’t. I’m not knocking Pakistan. I love the country and I really wish I can live in it someday. There are people who have an artistic talent and they prefer to go to India rather than Pakistan. A good many of our pop stars go across the border to record their songs, for example. Somy Ali is Pakistani-American. Why is she working in India? Its a better environment, of course. But to fix the problem our film industry is facing, we need those talented script writers, and directors, and producers, etc. to enter the industry - and they’re not even willing to do that. Well, some improvement can be seen in the past decade - hopefully, more talented individuals will venture into the industry in the future to keep improving the status of the industry. And then maybe one day, we won’t need to complain about movies like Gaddar, because we wont care about Indian movies. We’ll have our own Pakistani movies to watch.
No, that comment was made on the basis of that I am much more interested in the state of affairs in our cinemas than you are. Someone interested in a topic usually has more knowledge of it.
I personally know this is true.
I live in D.C. and sometimes take a cab to go to my workplace.
Most of the cabbies are Pakistanis.
Infact I like it because I would rather give money to a Paki if no Indian is availabe
And they seem to know everything about the latest bollywood movie!
I tell ya one thing. As it is I am confused about why Bollywood is making such stupid movies.
I find it even more confusing that Pakis keep watching them while cursing India
That last comment you made, Andhra, is exactly what I’ve been trying to say! I don’t know - some of us Pakis, sadly, are a bit hypocritical sometimes<<
Hypocricy is all right. Indians are hypocrites too over so many things.
That is what makes it so amusing. That they should watch Indian movies at all.
By the way you have got a lot of company if it is any consolation.
Egyptians,Africans watch Indian movies.
When Indian army went to Somalia they found Somalins call every Indian “Amitabh Bachhan”
So keep seeing Indian movies.
Personally I prefer to listen to Indian songs especially Kishore and Mukhesh and Rafi.
Even if I see a movie it has to have songs by them preferably.
So my movies are frozen the year Kishore passed away.He was the last one to go.
